Lumpini By Morning
Lots of business men running around with stupidly attractive wives. No money no honey indeed. Ok forget frankie goes to hollywood for now. I'm sure every second blog in the Bangkok section is called "one night in bangkok" (including my other one). It's good to be not sick anymore (after a good relax and a long perusal of "lonely planet") and it's fantastic to be a bit more clued-up about the place we're staying in. Purchased a bus map for 69 baht (hehe) and that has saved a lot of cash - plus the price was hilarious. The way that the bus map works is all the route numbers are above each stop so you find where you want to go and where you're at now, if any numbers match up you yell out "bingo" (not quite) and wait for that bus to come along. Only costs you about 6 baht into to siam square rather than up to 100 baht for a tuk tuk (although now we barter that down to 40). Arno arrived back safely from his whirlwind tour, he visited Ayuthaya (the old capital of the Siam empire) and Pattaya (which he said was exactly like the Gold Coast in Queensland plus a million "working ladies" with old men).
Yesterday we met
Fortress at night
Just down the road from my first guest house (K.S House). Made me feel safe eating dinner by the river! up and checked into Donna's Guesthouse again (which only had one room available and i had to stake that out all morning). Kao Sahn road is packed to the brim so that's all the more reason for us to get out of here (as we're practically locals now!). We caught the bus to Siam Square and did the MBK thing (massive shopping centre) for lunch and met up with a couple of uni boys from Perth. After lunch, we headed back to the guesthouse for some R&R plus a bit of a stroll down the road. We awoke and decided to hit up Siam Square that night for some clubbing and with a bottle of Mekong (thai whisky) & a bottle of coke, we jumped back onto a bus. Dinner was a western affair as my stomach still had a morbid fear of rice. We went to Chester's Grill and demolished about 20 different sections of fried chicken with a burger for good measure - plus they give (or sell) you glasses of ice to mix with your BYO drinks!! The only thing that could of topped off the night better was drunken techno bowling, which happened to be in
Fan-tastic
I shouldn't be so ignorant and actually look up the name for this form of morning meditation. MBK and felt like we were in a video game (without the need for any of those happy shakes). After Arno gave me an absolute thrashing, we set off to find some clubs but unfortunately they all had cover charges - Novetel basement cost 550 baht to get in! What are we, Chumps? Back to Kao Sahn road we hueled and i called it a night while i left Arno to do what he does best (or tries to do best).
Looks like here his best is good enough, so i woke up to an empty room this morning and decided to head to the park to watch some Thai Chi in action and shake off a few Cob Webs. Lumpini Park is full of life in the morning, with zillions of different morning rituals going on. You've got runners, guys with swords, people doing some synchronised fan thing, thai chi, more thai chi and what looked like the army doing endless amounts of push ups (with guards stopping people from taking photos). After a bit of a jog around and a stop off and weights section (naturally!) i headed back to Siam Square to do a little bit
Tough Guy
This guy was very happy to stop working out and get his photo taken. He was only benching about 60 Kg tho? Maybe he was warming up (but don't tell him i said that). more looking around (sober this time). Got to catch the Skytrain which is awesome but confusing - a crazy sight is watching everyone change trains at the Siam Square Station, organised chaos at its best. Arno got in contact but didn't happen to remember where he was, although it was a 30 minute cab ride out of town. He said he'd work it out, but in the mean time i caught up with Burty for lunch from a very tasty street vendor just near Donna's and we headed into town to go see a movie (Narnia). Not realising that all the school kids would be around (as its a saturday) it was hard getting a place, so we had to go back to MBK (AGAIN!) to get a ticket an hour before the movie - in the mean time, Arno met up with us to let us know what he'd been up to in our absence. Before the movies, they play the national anthem and show a montage of pictures of the king - it was funny watching Burty look get the shock of his life when everyone stood up inthe cinema.
Tonight we might do the Pat Pong
Ratchadamri Skytrain Station
A beautiful view of Royal Bangkok Sports Club and the city-scape. Lots of insanely rich people doing what they do best - nothing much. thing (seedy part of town) but it's all still up in the air. We've been warned that there's lots of shady characters around there, so don't just jump in a tuk tuk and ask for some adult entertainment - or you'll have nothing in your pocket to play with except what you were born with! (i'm trying to say they'll take your money for very little honey). That's it for now, Oh and one more thing - if you're coming home at about 5ish, look out for hoards of people doing aerobics in the street! It looks so fun i wanna join in!
