Today, we toured the city, including China Town, Wat Traimit (the temple of the Golden Buddha - all 5.5 tons of him), Wat Pho (the Reclining Buddha, also lots of gold), ate lunch on a big river boat, walked through heavy rain back to the bus, and had dinner at the Suan Lum night market in Bangkok.... Bodhi Blossom

The Bodhi Tree is revered in Thailand for its spritual nature. Lord Buddha meditated under a Bodhi tree for many years. There is a legend that if you clap when a Bodhi tree blossom falls, that you will have a lifetime of luck and prosperity. I forgot to clap, but was amazed to have witnessed this blossom falling from the tree just as I was standing by it.

I really was here!

The problem with traveling independently is that you are the sole photographer, so you aren't in many photos unless a kind roommate or fellow traveler takes your picture.

Reclining Buddha

The Reclining Buddha is about 150 feet from his head to his feet. It is difficult to get it all in one photo.

I held my arm up as high as I could and wished for a good photo. Not too bad.

Busy Corner

Bangkok is a bustling city of 10 million. The wiring and street signs compete for space.

Popcorn

I had thought to make my fortune by introducing Nebraska popcorn as a new snack food, but it looks like someone beat me to it. Popcorn is not that popular with the locals, who prefer more exotic fare, like little fried things in spicy sauces.
