Hi all,
Yes, I know, I haven't been in touch, but believe me I haven't had any time free until today!
Before I left Spain/UK to go on my round the world trip I had a mix of feelings. I was feeling incredible happy as I was finally doing something I've been wantin g to do for a long time, but also sad as I'm leaving behind my family and friends. I also felt excited as I will be meeting new friends along the way, and I also felt nervious because I was doing this on my own. During this year (or 2) I will have so many experiences, some good, some bad, but it's all part of the adventure and I will take them as they come.
I arrived to Bangkok about 4pm on the 2nd of May in an intense heatwave. The flight was not so bad and manage to sleep a couple of hours or so between meals and movies. After getting hassled by a few cab drivers, I managed to find one with a reasonable price to take me to the Siam Star Hotel were I was staying for one night only. Kel and Rhys were
there waiting for me with a couple of friends, Dani and Rory.
My first impression of Bangkok was that of a very very busy city with so many things happening at once that I new I would not have time to experience it all, but I was sure of one thing, that I was going to try my best to do and see as much as possible. The following day after the rest of the wedding party arrived from Australia, we first then for a massage. I decided to try the famous thai massage. I've heard that was good but painful so decided to give it a go. They were right, it was so painful in some areas of my body but it felt really good at the end. You know how much I hate when people cracked their fingers, well, she cracked all my fingers, my toes, and even my spine cracked. For lunch they took us to a small family restaurant where the food was incredible good. I love thai food!!!!! Here is were I finally meet the 2 girls that were going to be my romies during the days at Koh tao, Sonia and Renae, and I
knew immediately we were going to get along great. In the afternoon we had a city tour organised. First stop the Reclining Buddha ( Wat Pho). This is the oldest and larget temple in Bangkok, dating from the 16th century. It houses the country's largest reclining buddha (46m long and 15m high) and it has the biggest collection of Buddha images in the country. The figure is modelled out of plaster around a brick core and finished in gold leaf. We then went to see the Golden Buddha (Wat Traimit). This is a 3m tall, 5.5 tonne, solid gold Buddha image. An impressie sight, even in the land of a million buddhas. For dinner we went to Chinatown were we had another excellent meal, and I even tried duck tongues (I must say not my favourite dish but at least I tried it). At 7.30 pm our overnight train left to Chumpon, and from there was a 2 hr ride to Koh Tao, were my friends Kel and Rhys were getting married in a couple of days.
Duck Tongues
Delicius....not!!!
