Dave in heaven
No, not really just on the 20th floor. Hi everyone, winding down on the last leg of our tour now.
We arrived in Bangkok safe and sound and headed for our Hotel. Boy, what a complete change after the accommodation we had become used to. This hotel was 88 storeys high and we had a room (well, it was more like a suite) on the 38th floor. We thought we were in heaven, the room was huge, with spectacular views right across the city. We had a dressing room! We were in for an even bigger shock when we took a tour around the hotel. On the 20th floor, there was an outside swimming pool and spa and beauty area, and Dave really did think he was in heaven when we discovered a driving range on the lobby floor. Golf balls being hit into a net looking right over the city on the 18th floor!! How cool is that?
We took a short stroll around the area outside that evening and headed off for an early night to our luxurious room. The morning had a greater surprise. We got into the lift to go to the breakfast room which incidentally was on the 88th floor and just
Head for heights?
Our view whilst eating our breakfast couldn't get over the huge spread of food. Everything you could imagine on offer in buffet style. Cereals, fresh fruit, yoghurts, fruit smoothies, fruit juices, toast, waffles, fresh bread, eggs (any style you wished), bacon, ham, sauseages, chips, fried bread, baked beans. Then you came to the Asian section; noodles, curry, salad, vegetables etc. Then the Muslim section; specially prepared food. It was endless, you could have had a real feast!! I was really boring and stuck to my usual muesli, fruit and yoghurt, but needless to say, Dave had a full fry.
We got a taxi to MBK, the mother of all shopping malls. If you couldn't find anything to buy here, then it wasn't made!! There were so many stalls in the mall that we couldn't see from one end to the other and this was on about five floors. We did buy rather a lot, but then I defy anybody not to when you go there. The afternoon was then spent leisurely relaxing around the pool.
The next day, we went to Khoa San Road, which is the backpackers area and we suddenly felt more at home. It's great to be spoilt with the luxury

Refreshing after wandering around in 35 degrees. of The Bayoike Tower Hotel, but we're backpackers at heart and thoroughly enjoyed soaking up the atmosphere. It had such a different feel to it than where we were staying. This is in the old quarter of Bangkok and was full of colourful stalls and colourful people. There were all sorts to look at and fashion not followed - anything goes!
We haven't done the usual touristy things in Bangkok as I think we were all templed and rivered out by the time we got here, so we've really just mooched around and chilled. Although, every time we get a taxi, Dave gets stressed as the driver always tries to con you, by saying that he wants you to help him look for something - which means he is going to take you to a silk factory or leather shop etc. also, if he thinks the journey is too far and he won't make so much money out of you, he tries to get you to pay more instead of putting the meter on. We're a little bit long in the tooth to be taken in by them and they then get a little pissed off with us when we insist on the meter.
We are now sat in a bar just whiling away the hours until we get our taxi to the airport to return to the UK. The sights you see, although we have not seen too many lady boys (I think they must be in Franks imagination), we have seen a few though. We have had a fantastic time and have also thoroughly enjoyed writing our blog for all of you and getting the comments back from you. We've felt that you've been travelling along with us.
Take care and see (or speak) to you tomorrow. Lots of love.
PS. Watch this space for more adventures in May when we walk The Great Glen Way in Scotland!!
