The New Bully’s
At least they kept the Bull in front. Looks like they sold half of the restaurant and the top floors to make a 24 hour workout gym. While eating, I kept hearing banging on the ceiling, now it makes sense… That felt like a lot of writing for Sunday. I did want to add one thing the guide mentioned. We were in some of the poorer residence areas and he was explaining the living conditions. The rooms they rent are merely a box, sometimes no window, definitely no A/C, and community bath facilities. The reason people rent there is because it’s all they can afford as the minimum wage is $11. Uhh, that’s $11 per day, not an hour, and sometimes they don’t get paid that. There’s more details from the ride to add as I think about it, and a few more pictures also, but that’s for another time. So after the football draft ended at about 2:00am here, I immediately fell back to sleep until the 5:45 alarm. That means lack of sleep can’t be an excuse today because I got over 7 hours sleep in one night!
Decided to train only in the morning to see how I feel. There was rain again last night, but this morning was nice a clear all morning. Got to the gym while Fahlaep was cleaning and headed out for running. Since it was only one session today, I did 7 laps at a nice “Muay Thai” pace, and that took about 30 minutes. That was followed up by 10 minutes of jump rope. Eventhough it felt cooler than Savannah, I was dripping sweat like I just got out of a pool. Next up was 4 rounds of pad work of various combinations of punches and kicks elbows, and lots of knees, with the occasional sweep thrown in. It’s good to see how a seemingly nothing sweep can be used effectively to throw off the other fighter, especially the low kick/ sweep of the opponents lead leg. One round finished with 10 power kicks on each leg, another with 10 ”quick” on each leg. Fahlaep was a pretty good actor as my sweeps most likely would not have moved him off of his foundation today. The last round finished with the ever favorite machine gun punches where ”10” is sort of a relative count depending on when they were started relative to the end of the round. That’s a real shoulder burner. I felt really good after the first two rounds, and felt I did good with power and stamina through the last two also. Today added two more rounds of sparring. This was not a free-for-all thing, but more of a structured sparring. It was working combinations more or less without being told what was coming. The finish was some bag work for my kicks. Not so much the kick itself, but the footwork used, especially after the kick is retracted. Some of the subtleties that I hadn’t been paying attention to in the garage at home. It was a good workout today, and if the morning goes as well tomorrow, I’ll go for the afternoon, but will keep it light for the first day. I’m sure a second run/jump session will be a shock to the system.
Tonight’s dinner is at Bully’s, and it has changed also. It’s totally remodeled and about half the size. No pool tables, no big bar, and no big table that used to fit our whole team when we were here. Its nice inside, but just very different feel.
