The the last 10 months have been a journey of self-discovery and though my time in Asia, will end in 4 short days, a new journey in America will begin, with many more unkowns to explore! I have had the privlege and opportunity to spend the last 10 months with some of the most interesting, humourous, ADVENTEROUS, intellegent, individuals! This is my last blog about our last trip we took to Green Island (a volcanic Island in the Pacific Ocean, where it once was home to many political prisioners, and forbiden to the public) for one last
HURRAH ....thank you my friends for taking this amazing adventure in Taiwan with me!!!
“Of journeying the benefits are many: the freshness it bringeth to the heart, the seeing and hearing of
marvelous things, the delight of beholding, new cities, the meeting of unknown friends, and the
learning of high manners” Muslih-uddin Sadi Myself, Rachel, Muoy, Paul, Mike, Jason and Leah all spent the night at Paul's house on Friday night, before catching the early train Saturday morning to Taitung, where we caught our ferry to Green Island and met Anna. Now here,
at the port, little did we know that by Rachel stubbing her toe and cutting her foot, would lead to a domino effect with the rest of the clan with numerous trips to the clinic in Green Island, ha.
Saturday we arrived in Green Island (30 km around the whole island) around noon, here we picked up our shinny VW family van, and headed to our Hotel which faced the Pacific Ocean. After grabbing some lunch and eating delicious mountain boar, yes, it actually was delicious, Jas, Mike, Rach, and I took a little scenic drive around the island after getting gas. Here we saw chained up goats, deer and ducks and water buffalo, but chained up goats and ducks????? wtf. Returning from our little drive some of us headed out to snorkel.....I can't even begin to describe the underwater life we witnessed, the beautiful colored fish we saw, crabs, WATER SNAKES, school of fish, etc. I so wish I had an underwater camera, to capture the beauty of some of this fish, their uniquness. Here, leads to our second trip to the clinic, where Muoy happened to slice her big toe on coral and break of part
of it's nail, the blood WASN'T stopping, so much for the water shoes, they had a hole in them the whole time, guess we should have checked that snorkel gear from head to toe at the shop....we live, we learn! As a group we went to dinner and then went on a search for swim caps, in order to go into the hot springs we had to have one, BUT thus is our life, it started raining and lightening SO we didn't go. BLAH. instead, like the party people we are, we went to bed....i have to admit though, the sun was draining and we were all a little tired from the 530am wake up.
Sunday I passed on waking up at 430 am to catch the sun rise, but good thing, since it was cloudy, guess it wasn't that great of a view, ha. We headed to breakfast, where i had some delicious nutella toast and some weiners, and then since it was cloudy and a little rainy, there was not point of laying in the sun, oh yes, Green Island does not really have beaches and since it has some much coral, and is very rough
waters, it is not the best place to go swimming in the water, a little bit of a bummer, since i hate the fact that i will be leaving a tropical island, NOT SUNNED as much as i'd like to be, SO we went on a 'family' tour in the VW van and took some pretty awesome pictures. We also did an awesome hike down a mountain to get to some large rocks that were along the coast that we wanted to see. Here the water was sooooooooooooo blue and amazingly clear, and it casted a florecent purple color-stunning. While Paul was digging through the coral and looking and small creatures in the water, he came across an EEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it was large and in charge, where we later discovered it might have been going after the crab that kept trying to creep out of it's hole, but since we were standing over it, every time it inched out, it went right back in! Either way, seeing an EEL up close......well, it was sweet! Jason then found what seemed to be an area where we could have rock jumped, so BB and I headed over to join him, as well as
Anna, after many minutes of pondering how deep it was, myself, NOT THE COLLEGITE SWIMMER, got into the water, to get a feel for how deep it was in order for them to rock jump BUT the tide was coming in and the current was getting strong, so using my best judgement, i got the HECK outta the water-at this point, here is another episode where Paul's not so steardy flip flops caused him to slip and cut his foot on coral, rachel lost balance and fell over in slow motion where her little booty wound up with a small scratch from the coral and tore up her hands, myself on the other hand, and i do NOT know why, managed to walk away unharmed, yes weird, i know! After our rigerous hike BACK UP the mountain and our singing to scare off the weird creatures in what seemed like the jungle, (at one point we didnt make any noise and concentrated on climbing, a freaking HUGE crab came out of the rock work with his claws chopin away shuffling really FAST towards me, here i proceeded to scream and run, so two things i learned, MAKE NOSE WHEN CLIMBING
and DO NOT wear flip flops, which i did not really know we were going hiking and the spontaneous people that we are, i should have figured, BUT never WEAR flip flops, doesn't do so well with the traction ha) we headed back to the hotel for a quick rinse off and rest and headed to our BBQ dinner. it was DELICIOUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. YUMM YUMM YUMM!!! After dinner, some of us headed to one of the three ONLY natural salt water hot springs in the world! (Taiwan, Italy, and Japan) it was fun to take a dip but after the second long dark thick hair that stuck to my body, which clearly wasn't mine, i decided that fun was over and it was time to step OUT of the water-quickly i showered off, ha!
Monday we packed our crap, ate breakfast and caught the ferry home, had an eventful/humorous train ride home and once again like a domino effect, everyone started to leave, I GOT SAD, and that is the END.
