Woke at 5.30am! Roy still not too good. At 6.30 I was sitting out on the balcony, waving good morning to our very efficient and very cheery pool boy. It was quiet everywhere so I went downstairs to take some early morning photos of the pool and beach. At about 7.30am we went for breakfast and by 9.30am we were in place on our sunbeds!
I went for a swim in the sea, it was lovely - very warm. Roy walked down with me and to his disgruntlement whilst I had a dip Chandika came along to talk to him about us taking a tour with him! The more I could see him getting irritated by this, the longer I decided to stay in the sea. Evil :-)
Late morning I had a swim in the pool (which must be at least 100m long) and then it was time for our rearranged massage treatment.
For my massage I had the “pindoweda - spice revive”. This was a massage with traditional ayuverdic oils, followed by the masseuse pressing my body with heated, spiced rice poultices. It was good, but I’d been led to believe that this was the treatment
And another one
This time the aircon fog had lifted from my camera lens! where you get warm oil poured on your forehead for 20 minutes! This one I’d been dying to try. Turns out that one is called Shirodara, and was a different item on the “menu”. Never mind.
Roy had an Abhyanga aurverdic massage - same as mine but without the rice bags and therefore taking half an hour less! The spa is beautiful - before and after the massage we chilled in the relaxation area (on such comfy low level beds) and drank herbal tea. I smell like a Bombay Mix. I hope it wears off after a shower!
Later on we shared a club sandwich. Tasty and very filling, as it came with potato wedges.
Tonight is the Manager’s cocktail party followed by a cultural dance session and Sri Lankan buffet. Adding to the excitement is a bunch of new arrivals all parading around the hotel with cameras. Some of them are quite eccentric looking.
I left Roy in the room (he’s still feeling a bit ropey) while I went for a swim and a laze by the pool. I was shocked to the core when another guest spoke to me! Blimey - they barely speak to
each other! Mind you she was not really striking up a conversation, just asking if I’d left my specs on the side of the pool. I had.
The cocktail party was dull (guests all desperately avoiding making eye contact with each other, apart from a few sociable couples) and the canapés were rubbish. We came back to the room for an hour after it and debated whether to go for dinner or order room service (this is all because of Roy’s “illness” and the fact that we’re watching a tv programme about lions). Eventually we wander down for dinner. We passed on the Sri Lankan buffet and Roy ordered the Koggala Reef fish (again!). I had a tuna nicoise salad. We had a bottle of white and then came back to our room to watch more National Geographic. And I had a coffee and Baileys in bed.
We’re addicted to National Geographic channel. Well to be honest it’s either that or BBC World News and given that there are lots of programmes about reptiles on it this week then it has become our channel of choice. Roy likes reptiles.
Asleep at 11.
