Woke at 6 again. Fed up of waking so early. Managed to get back off to sleep until 9. Roy is not feeling so great, but I gave him ranitidine at 6.30am, thinking he had indigestion from last night's curry - he said he had pain in his stomach.
Got and and got ready, with Roy moaning that he felt like crap. But that he'd be ok to come down for breakfast. Bad move. I was eating my curds and treacle, and looked up to see Roy toying with a piece of pineapple... suddenly he was sick. Violently. Everywhere. In the middle of the restaurant terrace. Oh dear.... luckily, the staff were wonderful, rushing to his aid. Also luckily, there were only 2 other couples in breakfast at the time. Roy was mortified, but the staff told him not to worry. There were about 10 of them around us by now, doing all they could to help: "Doctor, sir?", "What can we do for you, sir?" "Cold towels for you, sir", and the order to bring him "King Coconut!". A waiter brought the coconut juice, which apparently is good for settling stomach problems. As we made our way back up
to our room, the staff were already organising a replica breakfast to be brought to our room. Roy was a dreadful colour, and as soon as we got in he jumped straight in the shower (without being too graphic, he needed to!).
Breakfast appeared (coffee, juice, toast and an omelette I'd ordered earlier). The staff had urged Roy to eat some dry toast. I asked for them to set it out on the balcony - unfortunately, we both came back inside and within seconds the bloody crows were all over it! That was officially the end of our efforts to have breakfast that day.
We'd booked in for a massage today, so we wandered along to the Spa to explain the situation. The manageress said it would not be a good idea for Roy to have a massage as it would be stimulating his system. By now we'd decided that he'd got dehydrated yesterday (it was very hot and he hardly drank any water all day) and that, coupled with a bad reaction to the black pork curry, had made him ill. I ate exactly the same, and yet I'm fine today. We've rearranged our massage for tomorrow.
Roy stayed in bed all day and I went down to the pool for a few hours to let him sleep. I sat and read a Marian Keyes book and swam. It is cloudy this afternoon but still very hot. I treated myself to an iced coffee. The pool area was like a graveyard - it was full of couples but I didn't see any of them speak to each other all afternoon! There was major excitement at 5pm when local schoolkids came down to the public beach about 30 yards away for a swim. They were loud and happy. Nice to see and hear.
Tonight, we walked around the hotel and grounds (which doesn't take long) and went for a very early dinner. Roy had some soup and bread. I had the Sri Lanka wrap and wedges and a beer. (Yes, Sri Lanka wrap is my favourite sandwich on the list!). We were back in our room by about 8. I'd got some DVDs from the library for Roy to watch and he watched something daft while I read more Marian Keyes. Lights out at 9.45pm.
