1st May - As many Elephants are living in the wild of Sri Lanka, Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is providing the treatments and the necessary care for the Elephants that get injured, wounded, diseased or be abandoned before weaning in the wild due to various circumstances. The orphanage was established in 1975 by the wildlife department of Sri Lanka. Today we we able to view the elephants taking their daily visit to the river where they were able to relax and play and get splashed with water jets by the rangers. We learnt a lot about the workings of the orphanage and the Sri Lanken elephants from Dilip.

Fascinating to see the elephants when they knew it was time to return to the orphanage slowly walking to the street, closely followed by Dilip.

At the end of the tour a quick insight into how elephant dung is made into paper and then used to create many different products. This was a relaxing tour with many questions answered.
