The A9 was hotly contested between the SLA and the LTTE and saw much fighting. Now there is peace it is actually being repaired and renewed at a rapid rate. Apparently much of the work is being done by Chinese contractors. A strange relationship I hear you ask, but I am told it is done so the Chinese can win friends in the UN who will help them with votes and such like.

There are lots of new housing estates that have been built by foreign Governments such as Australia and India. All the houses seem empty, not sure why though.

This is Trinco. Some local chaps asked me to join them for some food and drink. Sri Lanka is like that, you don’t need to seek out cultural interactions, they seek you out.

They invited me out on their boat. The sea was rough, the boat was small, the men were drunk, John was slightly nervous.

This chap had over indulged somewhat, so in typical chappish fashion his mates picked him up and threw him in to the boat. What to do with the drunken sailor? This was around 2pm, his hangover was going to be pretty severe.

A deer. The domestic Sri Lankan tourist industry is booming as Sri Lankans are finally allowed to discover parts of their country previously out of bounds.
