Cuite little baby, it was the only time he smiled at me. The girl sitting next to them spoke English, but she was too shy to talk to me.
Well here is my latest blog, did not have to travel far for this trip, only about 1 1/2 hours south to the town of Damyang. My girlfriend, Pearl, and I went to the Bamboo festival there on Sunday 29th April, the weather was gorgeous, clear and warm during the day and cool at night. We did not realize that this was the first day of the festival, so like anything in Korea; it was going to be very crowded. But as it turned out it was not that bad.

The first thing we did when we arrived at the festival was ride the train, pulled by a Jeep, around the grounds, kind of gave us the lay of the land, and we got to see an Adashe (old Korean man) peeing, not only did we get to see the sights but we kind of got a Male Burlesque Show well worth the $2 we paid for the ride. After our "Train" ride around the park it was time to eat lunch, so we checked out what type of festival food we could try, we settled on some Bibimbop, cold noodles, an order of Peajon, Korean Pizza, made with bamboo

leaves, Pearl and I agreed that the food was just ok. As we walked around we did see some food stalls with big 'ol pigs on spit, slowly turning and cooking, and stuffed squid was also being cooked on grills, it actually looked very good. I did notice that this is not your typical festival food court that we are use to back home, there were no funnel cakes, kettle corn, sausage and onions or fresh lemonade, instead our choices were cup of silk worm larva, cooked fish paste on a stick, roasted chest nuts, fresh fruit drinks, although they did have cotton candy in which we did par-take in.

After lunch we walked around and checked out some of the exhibits and booths, it was very interesting to see all the different things that are made from bamboo, other than your typical things like flooring, hats and baskets, the unusual items (for us westerners), a big bamboo tube that single people sleep with, helps keep them cool in the summer. Than there is the bamboo tea made from the leaves of the bamboo tree, also bamboo salt which was very expensive. They had a furniture display showing dividers

using bamboo paper, and lamps using different colored bamboo paper.

After the exhibits we went and watched some shows, we went to watch this Indian Group (Apaches) playing traditional "Coyote Oldman" music which was very good, we noticed most of the people in the audience was wearing these red and white hats, so Pearl went and asked where did they get the hats, they told her that they were given out to the local people, a few minutes later and elderly man came over to us and presented me with his hat, which was very cool, but looking at the pictures with the hat on makes my head look like a big 'ol melon.

It was time for dinner and we decided to forgo the festival food court and try a local restaurant, and we found a Bibimbop restaurant, this region of Korea is famous for their Bibimbop, and it was very good.

After diner we went to watch the Chinese Acrobat show, and than went home.

Just a short note/excuses on the pictures, I just bought a new Nikon D200 DSLR camera and this was my first time to use it, still have sooooo much

to learn on it. The pictures that are blurred, I intended them to be blurred, they were dancing and I wanted to convey motion...that’s my excuses and I'm sticking with it.

Looks like we will be taking a trip over Memorial Day holiday, thinking about Guam will decide this week, if it is Guam I'm sure my next blog will have plenty of sunset pictures....lol.

That’s all for now, want to thank all of you for reading about my adventures the past 2 1/2 years, and for those that posted comments thank you also.

The children seem to be so happy,,except the little wanting Pearl's candy cotton. Ha!You camera did a great job. Am I the only one that does not know what Bibimbop is made of???? Looking forward to your next trip..Lu
