Hey,

Before we started writing our series of China blogs, we thought we should get this one out first...as it's already a little delayed! This blog is from when Larry's brother Sean, and his friend Carl, came to visit us from Japan! Unfortunately, we were a little pooped from already having my brother here for the 3 weeks prior to their arrival, and especially from our China trip, but we pulled it together and had a great time with them!

On the day that Sean & Carl arrived in Korea, Larry and I picked them up from the airport and we all drove into Seoul for some lunch. We were all so hungry that we decided to skip looking for some good, authentic Korean food, and we just went straight to Pancho's in Itaewon for some Mexican food! After lunch, we spent the rest of the day showing Sean & Carl around Seoul. We did some shopping in Dongdaemun and Insadong, walked along the Cheonggye Stream, and finished off the night with some delicious Korean chicken galbi and Cold Stone ice cream (not so Korean)!

On their second day and final full day with us here, we
tried to fit in as much as we could. We went to the Korean War Memorial in the morning, then we had a traditional Korean lunch and headed to Changdeokgung Palace for a tour. Afterwards we went to Namdaemun for some more sightseeing and shopping, and finally, ended up in Hongdae for some dinner. I was a little frustrated when we first arrived at the restaurant because, even though the atmosphere looked really cool and I was the one who persuaded the group to check it out, all of the menus were only in Korean and the entire waitstaff could not speak English either! But, after seeing how sweet and accommodating everyone was being to us, we all decided we should give it a go anyway. And...much to our surprise...we had a great experience there. Not only was the food pretty good, but also, we met some really cool Korean band members who invited us to their table for drinks after we had finished eating. So...the night was great...and over for Larry and I at this moment....but not for Sean and Carl! As we got into our car to head back home, they decided it would be a good idea
to go out all night, and then go straight to their DMZ tour the next morning! Well, Larry and I weren't game for that, but we gladly dropped them off at the bar!!!

Unfortunately, the next morning Sean & Carl's DMZ tour was canceled, but at least that gave them an opportunity to get some rest at a 'jin-ji-bong' (Korean bath house) before they got on their plane that day. We had to say good-bye then, as we had to go back to work that day...but we all agreed we had a really nice couple of days together.

Hope you guys enjoyed Korea!

Love,
Larry & Melanie

Korean for the Day: Komapjiman onurun pyollo naek-ijiga anneyo. - "Thanks, but I don't feel like it." (Said Mel & Larry to Sean & Carl in response to staying out and partying all night!!!)

Hey!
You guys (and gal) are so cute! My husband appreciates the sense of humor of your captions! It's neat to see what's going on with you all so far away! Too bad about the tour cancellation!
