After the play, James' mom kissed him on the cheek. I just had to get a picture. After I told him about the lipstick, he got all grossed out and ran to the bathroom!
Finally! After many painful hours of practicing our play for the Winter Drama Festival, class Pluto put on a great performance of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer for their families. The play consisted of roughly 7 lines per child - memorized - and two Christmas songs with actions (Rudolph and Jingle Bell Rock). We would practice a minimum of 45 minutes since the beginning of December. There were many problems leading up to the actual presentation, but they managed to pull it off. The kids would memorize their lines, then over the weekends they would come back and either forget their lines or when it was their turn to speak. In addition, my original "dance moves" were seen as inadequate by my superiors for Jingle Bell Rock so they taught the kids a whole new routine. I wasn't offended; I was actually a little relieved that they offered to teach them something with a little more movement. Luckily my actions for Rudolph "passed" because some kids confused the original actions with the new actions that they were taught...learning new actions for both songs would have made their lives a lot harder. Thankfully the kids did a great job and the parents loved

it. Afterwards the teachers had a chance to speak briefly with the parents and take pictures with them and their kids. I was told by one of the father’s that “I am a great director”. Look out Hollywood!!

Two days later all the classes were brought down to the gym to have a visit with Santa. Santa was played by the one and only Mr. Kovats. The costume was pretty good but it wasn’t good enough to fool the kids. As soon as he came into the gym the kids started screaming “Mr. Kovats! Mr. Kovats!” It was funny to see. Anyways to make a long story short, all of the kids got to sit on Santa’s lap and were each given two presents - one that their parents had brought into the school for them earlier that week, and then a book from the school. Most of my kids got gifts that would be typical back home for a 6 year old - Power Ranger toys, Barbie, etc. However, one of my kids got a cell phone!! I’m not talking a cheap little kid cell phone either…this model is top of the line, probably about a $300-500 phone.

Here's a shot of Ryan, Ashley and Soo Bin practicing their song movements in the classroom before we headed down to the stage.
Hopefully she doesn’t loose it…

Here's everyone lined up in the classroom prior to heading down to the stage. There's always one kid who will ruin the picture...that's Ryan making the ugly face and Tim with his tongue out. (Check out my Christmas tree advent calendar on the white board!!)

At the end of all the presentations (3 plays per day), all the presenting classes for that day sing a group song on stage.
