After a twelve hours flight from London Heathrow to Hong Kong, five hours later we were on our way to Singapore. We arrived at our hotel in Clark Quay just after midnight. This meant that we had left home Sunday afternoon and arrived at our first place of call on Tuesday morning. We were pleasantly surprised by the 30+ temperature at midnight, especially when we read our family's emails reporting freezing conditions back home.

We were enjoying a good night's sleep, catching up on what we had missed until the local travel representative phoned at 0800 to ask if everything was okay. We agreed to meet him an hour later and then found a nearby cafe to sample a local breakfast. This meal consisted of a fried egg on a bed of noodles and bean shoots served with a spicy fish cooked in banana leaves. What a way to start your day.

This afternoon we took a city sightseeing trip which included a whistle stop tour of the National Orchid garden. It goes without saying that Lyn could have spent all day there. Hopefully we will not be so rushed when we visit the Gardens by the Bay (Singapores version of the Eden Project in Cornwall) tomorrow.

This evening is a walk around Clarks Quay which is full of pubs and restaurants. Well that is what a holiday is for isn't it?
