For such a small country Singapore manages to pack a lot in. Rejecting the lure of a 'Singapore Sling' at the Raffles hotel we meerly stuck our faces against the window until we were shooed away. We then hot footed over to Little India, having our fill of Thali another short journey transports you to the city where you can marvel at the architecture - when you get a stiff neck, it is a short walk to follow in the footsteps of the rich by wondering round the docks.

If cleanliness is second only to Godliness then the whole country is due a direct pass to heaven. Singapore is spotless to the point that I found myself looking for where the rubbish is hidden. The people are thoroughly polite and this coupled with a sprinkling of Christmas lights made our stay a real pleasure. Of course there is always a down side and while it was hard to find, Singapore has earned itself the title of a 'fine country' -

During our two day stay we noted fines for the following:
dropping rubbish
eating on a train
urinating in lifts
importing chewing gum
carrying durian fruit
unnatural sex (I have no idea)

In fact there seemed to be so many different fines I worried that I would inadvertantly fall foul of one - was crossing the road without waiting for the green man liable to penalty? what about wearing the colour blue on a Thursday?
