We're off
I think I forgot something?!?!! Ok, so today is a little rainy (I swear it's a monsoon!!!) so I thought it was a perfect day to update our journal.
After arriving on Saturday morning, Leslie and I slept for a bit and then headed off to Bedok Reservoir for the World Cup wakeboarding competition. It was pretty cool and they had male/female competitors from 16 different countries, including Canada. They were amazing and make it look soooo easy. They even had one girl from Singapore who was 12.....yep, 12! crazy! So, we basked in the sun and watched that and had some delicious wonton soup before heading back to the hostel for an early night.
Sunday, we met up with friends of Shaun's grandma's that she had met on a previous trip. Carrie and her sister took us for Dim Sum in Chinatown and showed us around for a bit. Then, she drove us to Orchard road where all the "Big Shops" (Louis, Hermes, Chanel, etc) are and needless to say, we didn't stay long there...just a few drools and pictures. We headed back to the hostel and had some Veitnamese food near the hostel. We went to bed at 8:30 because at 3am,
Sunrise
First of many sunrise's I'm sure. This one was on the flight to LA. there was the traditional Hindu fire-walking ceremony at a temple downtown. So, up we got and took a cab to the temple and watched all the devotees walk into the temple. Then, Leslie and I took off our shoes and walked on the coals....just kidding! Yeah, right!! I can't even get her to eat anything too spicy! Honestly, we did take off our shoes and entered the temple to see the ceremony. I took some pictures but not on the digital so it may be a bit before I can get them on the web site. All in all, it was pretty cool!
Monday, Leslie and I decided to go to the Botanical Gardens for the afternoon....so pretty. They have an Orchid Garden too (their national flower), which I absolutely love. We took a few pictures (ok, 100ish), got stuck in a light shower, not like today and came home. Later that night, we went over to the Malay Village for their upcoming festival "Deepavali" and took in the sights and market-life and our first try of Muslim food. Pretty yummy, even Leslie liked it!
Today, we moved hostels to Little India where we will be meeting up
Japan?
Had to get off the plane in Tokyo and followed the herd of people. Didn't know they were going to immigration!!(No English anywhere!!) A nice Japanese man re-directed us. OOPS! with a couple of my friends from school (Deb and Susan). They are arriving tonight at midnight and we will spend tomorrow with them and then all of us will head up to Kuala Lumpur on Thursday. We are having a great time and miss you all very much.
All from Singapore. Enjoy the pictures and see you in Malaysia!
Love, Melissa and Leslie
