Singapore By night
This is the stunning backdrop to the street circuit Hello everybody, we hope that you are all ok........here is our story about our latest movements...............
Eight hours from the Gold Coast airport on a bargain $200 each flight with Air Asia X we arrived back in the hustle and bustle of KL! It was strange going back to somewhere where we have been before but nice that we knew where we were going and what we wanted to do. Kl hasn't changed one bit, Petaling Street which is china town, full to the brim with stalls selling cheap food, copied handbags, watches, cd's clothing and anything you can think of really oh how we have missed it.
We were straight into shop unil you drop mode, as we have been saving to buy a new SLR camera since Australia and KL is the place to buy. You get so many freebies thrown in along wih the added bonus of bargaining with them too. We spent a day and a half wondering and mainly getting lost in all of the large very confusing shopping malls that they have there. Eventually we agreed on a deal in the Canon shop. This was the best deal that we got and the
Poorly F1 car
one of the cars that had to be removed from the track only place that would give us an international warranty on the lenses, so we are now proud owners of a sparkly new Canon 1000d SLR! The only thing now is to figure out how to use it correctly ha ha ha.
We took a bus ride to Singapore on Sunday for the Grand Prix, the very first night race! How very exciting. However we were not that excited just yet as we had a small problem in the form of a large 20kg box full of stuff we have acquired that we did not have time to send in Brisbane. We had tried to send it from KL but the post office had shut early due to it being Ramadham, so our only option was to take it on a 5hour bus journey with us so that we did! It was a bit of a nightmare as you have to get on and off the bus at each border point, taking your bags with you! We finally arrived in Singapore and the plan was to take it to he post office on the way to the hotel with us. We hopped in a taxi and explained that we needed
Fire Marshal
Watching carefully to go to a post office, shock horror when we arrived to find that the post office had been knocked down and was in bits on the ground! We couldn't believe it.
Tired and very irritated we decided that it wasn't worth worrying about until the next day, when we could go to a main post office to relieve ourselves of it, so the next stop was the hotel that my mum had very kindly treated us too. We were so glad of it after all the drama, thank you so much you are a star!
The only thing left to do now was to collect our tickets and then go to the race, so now we could get excited! When we say collected our tickets we were presented with a pass that goes around your neck in a posh box it was lovely! A great touch. We felt like we had won something ha ha ha! A bit of fast food then back to the hotel for a shower then on the train to the circuit.
For those of you that don't really know, the circuit was based around the Marina and went past Raffles and
VRROOOMMMMM
A splash of red, whizzing by was 5KM in lengh with some very hairy turns involved. It was a street circuit that has taken them about 2 months to put together. We had purchased a 'walkabout' ticket which allowed us to do exactly that. It was a bit too expensive for tickets in the stands.
The race started at 8pm so we got there about an hour earlier to have a look around. WOW very impressive!!!!!! Everything was lit up in bright white lights to allow the drivers to see where they were going. It was fab you could walk right around the circuit that went over bridges and underpasses. All with the beauitful city skyline in the backdrop it was perfect. They had platforms that were free to stand on as the barriers were very high for obvious safety reasons. We were walking around one of the slow bends on the trck when VRROOOMMMM VRRRRROOOOMMMMM.........................it gave us goose bumps the sheer sound and speed of the cars going past, it was amazing! This was just the warm up lap.
A spot up by the side of the stands gave us a good view for the start of the race............and they were off!!!! I
The Track
Part of the track, taken from a bridge that i was houted out for being on! can not explain how much of a buzz you get listening to and watching it, we couldn't stop smiling!
We wandered around the track as the race was taking place, lucky enough to be in the right places at the right time for when the crashed cars were taken off the track! (hence the pictures that are close up). We didn't really know what was going on in the race as we were just in total ore of the atmosphere there, so for the last 15 laps we parked ourselves by a big screen to watch Fernando Alonso win!
It was one of the best things we have both ever seen and would definately recommend it to anybody who is thinking of going, even if you are not into the racing thing! Well worth the money spent.
So where are we now hey, well the answer to that is Borneo, in Sabah to commence our next chapter! We landed into Kota Kinabalu on Monday night and have stayed here for 2nights so far, just to catch up with ourselves and have a rest to be honest. And of course it has given me chance to catch up
Safety Car
Ready and waiting on the blogs! We plan to go to Sepilok in the morning to see the Orang utans for a couple of days then head off to do a spot of rainforest trekking and wildlife spotting. Then its Diving the Sipidan Reef for Ste whilst i amuse myself then back to climb Mt Kinabalu before we head back to Singapore for our flight to India.
So there you have it..........hopefully we will be able to do another blog before we leave here so you can see Borneo in its glory!
Speak to you all soon ste and bex xxxxxxxxxxxx
