We had breakfast in the hotel this morning as it was in the hotel deal ,which we hadn't realised, and then set out to explore.
It was a bit difficult to find our way about and we ended up in the Sim Lim shopping mall which is cameras, computers and everything digital and electric in the world!!!!! I bought an extension for my lens (makes it wider) rather by accident and Bob says I can go there tomorrow!!!!!!
We eventually found a city tour bus to take us round Singapore city. There seem to be hundreds of ordinary bus stops but none that indicated the tourist bus stopping places. Eventually we got on board a bus and after almost a full circuit on the tour bus we stopped at the Suntec shopping mall which has the bus station where the drivers have lunch. We had seen some fantastic architecture and some very specific areas of the city, Little India, Chinatown, the financial area with huge skyscrapers and the markets, including the thieves market. I hope we shall have time to see a bit more tomorrow.
We decided to have some lunch here but the choice was mind boggling
and in the end we played it safe with Dinah having an omelette and I had fried rice with beef and prawns, this was followed by some excellent fresh pineapple. Whilst we were there we saw a Ducktour advertised. It involved riding on an amphibious vehicle round the city and then up the Singapore River. This was a very novel way to see the ciity from the land and the river. We had a very good view of the Singapore Flyer which is Singapore's answer to the London Eye. It takes 35 mins to go all the way round and is slightly bigger than the Eye. From the top you can see Malaysia and Indonesia on a clear day! We also saw the coloured new temporary stadium that has been built for the Singapore Day Parade on the waterfront with a floating stage. They plan many splendid concerts on this special stage while their new stadium is built.
After this we got back on the ordinary city tour bus and asked the driver to let us get off at the nearest stop to the Park Royal Hotel which he did. It was only after we had got off and
had a coffee that we realised there were two Park Royal Hotels and we were at the wrong one the other side of the river. It was very hot (although overcast) and quite humid so we flagged a taxi down to get us to the right hotel.
After Bob had cooled down in the air conditioned room we went out to eat. As most of the restaurants in little India were vegetarian I had lots of choice but not so much for Bob who was getting very tired and hungry. The chicken korma he finally settled for was far too spicy so he was not too happy. I think we may have to go to the hotel restaurant tomorrow before setting off on the last plane ride home. We should arrive home about 6am on Thursday morning so I'm not sure when we will do the last entry.
