Day 23
Well today I left Phuket on Air Asia to fly to Singapore to connect to my flight to Johannesburg.
I thought I'd be really smart and a not get an awful lot of sleep so I would be extremely tired for the flight and would sleep.
HA!!
Firstly my last sleep in Kata was short - just 3 hours.
I had to carry/push/toss my luggage down the 3 flights of stairs down to the road (this may sound easy - but it AINT!!!!)
Then I got the taxi ride of HELL to the airport.
I think the ride from Kata to the Phuket international airport is supposed to take 45 - 60 minutes?! Well, this ride took 35 minutes!!
I don't think we did anything under 140km p/hr!!! The only time we went under that was at the traffic lights and when he slammed on the breaks to avoid the ute that had rolled. Then further up when he nearly went up the arse of the car in front that quickly verged into our lane to avoid the car that had been t-boned!
I was so glad to get out of the car, that I basically threw my
Changi Airport - Singapore
Beautiful pond at the international departures hall money at him and got my luggage out myself! He gave me a card, which I promptly threw in the bin!
Flight to Singapore was uneventful! Air Asia plane was sort of comfortable. The seats are very small. I reckon if you were any larger than me, you would be struggling!!!
I felt like I was almost pushing the armrest out, thank god I didn't have anyone next to me.
Flight was pretty empty!
I had 14 hours in Singapore. So I just hung around for the first hour, posted a huge parcel back home. I tried to do this in Phuket but I couldn't because the damn post office in the airport didn't open until 9am and I wanted to do this at 8am.
So I had to carry it to Singapore with me. Cost me 64.50SGD, which wasn't to bad I guess.
Then I checked in my bag - she was surprised to see me so early lol
I booked myself on a trip to Bugis as a transit passenger. This is a free service put on for passengers in transit.
I was to be there for 3 hours, but I was only there for
40 minutes and this dickhead pushed his huge trolley loaded with boxes smack bang into the back of my heels.
I was standing in line to get drinks and of course the boxes where higher than he could see, so he walked straight into me.
If you have ever been to bugis markets you'll know there are no sitting areas unless you’re eating at the eatery.
I walked and walked searching for somewhere to sit down so I could lick my wounds...but had no luck.
I could feel my left ankle in particular starting to swell up. So I decided that I would head back to the pick up point and catch the next bus back to the airport. This was probably the smartest decision I had made the whole trip lol
By the time I had arrived back at the airport my ankle was double its size and all over the achillies was black with bruise.
After a walk around the many many shops in the airport I decided to get a lounge pass. So I joined the Premier Lounge for 6 hours. This cost $30SGD I think. It gives you free light snacks, hot & cold drinks,
local calls, hot shower, wifi access and comfy seats.
Although the lounge was good, I was very disappointed by the lack of variety in food on offer.
There were tiny triangles of tuna sandwich and English cucumber sandwiches.
Apart from that there was some mushroom soup which is just O.K. Then there was some salad that had been sitting there all night and was still sitting there when I left at 1.15am!!
I will source out a better option next time.
Flight finally board and we took off right on time - at 02.30am!
OMG what a long flight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The seats were extremely tight for an international flight. I was on the 777-200.
Luckily again I didn't have anyone next to me...I was able to stretch out a little until my back reminded me that it doesn't like to be in awkward positions!!
Then I had to suffer the rest of the way sitting upright.
Got about 1 hour of sleep broken over the entire 11 hours!
Finally arrived at 7.30am Jo'burg time and was very happy to see Leane standing there!! 😊 😊
