During June 2009 my family headed to Maasin, Southern Leyte to attend my cousin's wedding. We stayed in a cheap but clean pension house located in Downtown Maasin. Its called Casa Ampil they have just renovated the establishment and I paid 450 for the 2 bedroom but they dont have hot shower. Then we went to have a dinner at Kinamot sa Abgao restaurant, a rustic and filipino inspired restaurant located at teh seaside. Good food and reasonably price. I like the dim-lit dining area and its ventilated by the sea breeze as it is located at the seaside. Perfect for romantic dinner and for the whole family.

The next day after the wedding we headed for Macrohon, its a one-hour drive municipality south of Maasin. The reception took place at Kuting reef resort and spa, a newly built hotel and resort. The place boasts for its spacious lawn with coconut trees, boardwalk for al-fresco dining,infinity pool which gives the illusion of a big ocean, function room for all occasions, an air conditioned restaurant for those who likes to dine privately and villas which gives the perfect view of the ocean. The staff are great and helpful especially the owner who was asking for our feedback and reviews of the hotel. At night, the lawn is a perfect place to stay for get-together and family bonding while star gazing and night swimming. Rooms are individually built with verandas for those who like to sit back and watch the ocean. They offer water sports and package tours for those interested to explore the neighboring islets. Guests are coming from nearby cities as well as from abroad. But the entrance road leading to the resort is rough and they plan to improve it since the hotel is still expanding.

Another resort in Macrohon is Amparaiso which caters mostly to locals although this place is not that spacious but they have facilities for leisure like swimming pool, karaoke,volleyball,floating cottage, tilapia pond (you can catch fresh tilapia and grill it!) function room as well as guest rooms. They are very strict in their pool maintenance, they dont allow footwear to be brought inside the pool area courtyard.

To those who want to travel here I suggest that you rent a car because these places are a bit far from Maasin and the road leading to these resort is not paved.
