Day 39 - Tharu village community, Safari
I thought I might not to sleep well last night, due to not having air con, but I did better than expected! I woke a couple of times, but soon went back over.
I got up at 7am, showered and sorted for breakfast at 8. I'm the only one taking breakfast. Strange. I enjoy, no, need my breakfast more than any other meal! I'm looking forward to it, muesli, fresh mixed fruit, yoghurt and honey.
Yes, good choice, really enjoyed my breakfast, sat chatting to the local guide, just taking it easy. Happy days!
We are meeting Anu and the guide at 9am for a village tour. We sort of did it last night on bikes, but with no information, as last nights bike ride was, 'fly by' fun. This time it will be learning about the Tharu community.
The houses that we are staying in are much better than one would expect! considering we appear to be in the middle of nowhere! They present like a cute, small cottage. They are brick built, then covered in a sort of mud clay. No air con, but have a fan.
The shower and toilet are good, only cold water, but that is so welcome! The electricity is a bit intermittent, but torches are supplied! Altogether, fit for purpose!
It is so tranquil here, we went for the village walk with the local guide. It took us about an hour and a half. All of the land around is private agricultural land. All of the houses are sort of farm houses with cows, chickens, ducks, and goats around them. They are raised for food, and they live off the land, also selling their produce. All self sufficient, living a sustainable life.
At about 11.30, 4 girls came to the village to do some henna for us. Anna, Lisa and I all get some done.
After last nights rain, it is so humid. Anu tells us that we are lucky because of the rain, it is a lot cooler than it usually is! Pphheeww!
We had lunch, I chose vegetable noodle soup. Again, I was happy with my choice! After lunch, we relaxed on the outside 'bed' things. I nodded straight off!
At 2pm the jeep arrived to pick us up for the safari in Chitwan... I'm
not sure if it is classed as a jungle, or a national park, but I think it is a jungle!
I was surprised by how many people came with us. There was; us four girls, Anu, Ravi our driver, the guide, the driver of the jeep. And five others! I soon found out why!
We had to take an hour detour through villages because of the heavy rain causing the river to be too dangerous to cross in the usual place. It was a surprise was that we even had to drive through a river! Finally, we arrived at the jungle.we drove around for about three hours. Sadly we didn't see much. Bernie saw a wild boar, Lisa spotted a deer, Bernie caught a grasshopper, then just before we left we caught sight of the rear end of a rhinoceros.
Although we didn't see much, I did enjoy the ride! I have to give credit to the driver, he did a great job! I don't know how the hell he got us around there in one piece! The excess rain caused a lot of problems with getting stuck! That's where all the extra men came in! We
couldn't have managed without them! Every time we got stuck, they all jumped out, pushed, pulled, jumped, anything... But the got it moving.
We returned to Barauli at about 7pm. We had half an hour to get a shower. Tonight we have a Nepalese dinner, followed by a dance display.
We have been rejoined with the Yolo group from G. We last saw them in Varanasi. The display was entertaining. I just don't know where they get the stamina from! I joined in with the last dance, I was so warm out, after only one dance!
A beer, then bed!
