I spent a rest day at Manang (3500m) to acclimitize to the altitude..the scenery speaks for itself.

I had a snowball fight with the local kids. they're looking at my feet cause I was kicking snow at them to hold them at bay. Great fun till their mom came and scolded them.

A French-Canadian friend and his guide who I joined in attempting the pass. We spent the night at the high camp (4800m) and set off at 5.30am the next morning.

Thorung-la. 5416 gruelling metres high. The mountaineering cliches are all true - at that altitude, every step was a supreme test of will, as my muscles screamed for oxygen. I had to fight the fear of slipping off the icy trail-ledge, in order to not hyper-ventilate and induce altitude sickness, which was starting, with headache and dizziness. I\'ve never been so confronted by such primal fear before.
