Hello to you all from the beautiful island that is Maafushivaru – it’s been getting on for a couple of weeks since I blogged so I hope everyone is keeping well – stay safe in the floods all of you in the UK and my snow bunny friends… stay safe on the slopes!
It’s been one of those weeks, busy but fun, and no matter what happens you just cannot knock life here in paradise… but as soon as I get back to the UK I need a dentist… I had a temporary filling before I came out here and I think it’s now gone, in fact I know it’s gone – along with half my tooth, there is definitely a big hole where my tooth should be – hoping very much it doesn’t start to hurt as it’s a bit near the nerve and we don’t have a dentist on Maaf… I must have swallowed the filling/tooth because I don’t seem to have it anywhere…
Then there was my late night accidental shower, no I didn’t fall in the sea, I came back late one night, having only had ONE drink in the bar… and at the bottom
of the stairs to my room there is a high pressure shower for washing the sand off your feet – picture the scene… midnight, all alone, phone in one hand and shower in the other (cigarette obviously in mouth… as no free hands), foot raised and poised to be washed – I pushed the button… full pressure (of course) and I had the shower the wrong way round – I swear I had only had one drink… well after the shock realisation of what had happened I started laughing – still alone, in the middle of the night now absolutely soaking wet through and with a cigarette splattered across my face and in my hair – how attractive!
I’ve also been snorkelling… again and now I’m getting quite good – nerves of steel!
A lovely guest on the island and my pal Sara took me snorkelling the other day and I made it to the big stick marking the edge of the reef but I just could not bring myself to go any further… I like the lagoon and am becoming increasingly attached to the ‘big stick’ – I guess I’m a lagoon kinda
girl but now the pressure is on... Life jacket at the ready! Everyone on Maaf is totally fabulous and so I thought I would give a few a little mention… Heidi & Mark – come back… Maaf needs you – the place is very quiet now… And Jamie & Linda… missing our late night boat trips to Lonubo and now I have no-one to go on crab watch with to the jetty… Special thanks also to the Tonkies for the pics… Kate Winslet has nothing on me… Sadly I'm unable to post this particular photo... :-)
So, despite promising ourselves to do the 30day keep fit plan (even though there are only 28 days in February…) – well get fit in my case, the Mafiose and myself haven’t been near the gym… we’ve been busy… you know how it is but DJ night on Maaf is fab and I’m quite sure I read somewhere that dancing is good for you… I even have a little evening bag to carry all my bits & bobs in… ok so it’s not so much glamorous as practical but I have become very attached to it… We have, however, managed to pedalo across to Lonubo – it was surprisingly easy and despite my jelly legs when we returned nothing ached the following day!
Looking forward, as always, to Bodu Beru again later this week where Abdullah, (him of Sponge Bob Square Pants swim shorts fame) will be strutting his stuff… just like Mick Jagger, in fact that’s his new nick name - I just need to get a pic of him now… problem is he doesn’t stand still long enough – maybe I’ll try for an action shot… I’m still hankering to become an honorary member of the Bodu Beru team here on Maaf seeing as I am always up there dancing and encouraging guests to participate.
News Flash – exciting news… I HAVE BEEN IN THE BIG SEA – well nearly-ish, I snorkelled with Sara (one half of the Mafiose) out to the big stick that marks the edge of the reef, as I have already done but this time, holding her hand I went out a few metres more - right to the edge of the reef and saw the drop off into the big sea, and all the amazing fishes and coral – this has made me more determined than ever to don my life jacket and be brave – special thanks to Barry and Sara my snorkelling buddies and to Jenny for her never ending encouragement and support – in fact all the guests and staff here are super – guys I really couldn’t have even got this far without you all!
On the subject of the sea, for some fantastic info on the marine life here in the Indian Ocean check out the Maafushivaru Marine Biology page on FB and also Dive Maafushivaru – there is some great footage and photos of marine life, and who knows maybe in the coming weeks there will be a pic of me on there with a turtle or manta…
Time for me to go now as its breakfast time… I’m thinking, maybe fresh pineapple and a couple of sneaky raisin Danish pastries… now that sounds good. I'll maybe even manage to fit in some snorkelling today - work commitments permitting...
Take care everyone, wherever you are and happy, safe travels too!
Love Tallulah x
