Made it to Malaysia! I left Krabi early this morning and had about a 1 hour flight to Malaysia. I was sad to say bye to Jacque, but also excited to continue my adventure!
I could have stayed in Krabi another couple of hours, or spent more time in Malaysia. I decided to leave early to make my stop over 12 hours so I could leave the airport. I tried to get breakfast at the Krabi airport. The options were dried fish and squid or
chips. After much debate, I had salt and vinegar chips for breakfast. I was going to take a tour in Malaysia, but it was full. Im proud of myself because I went out on my own and this is probably the part of the trip I was most nervous about. I read on the Secretary of State website to travel here with caution. We should avoid coastal areas, especially on the eastern side. There have been ISIS members caught there and a high threat of kid napping. I would have loved to see the coast here, but decided I'd rather be safe than sorry.
I went out to the Batu Caves which is a
Hindu temple. This is a majority Muslim country, but people are free to practice their own religion. It's about an hour from the airport. The Uber driver I had talked about aliens with me. He said that after a UFO crashed at Area 51, the US suddenly took off on the technology front, landing on th moon etc. He said Russia was suppposed to land on the moon first. I found this interesting since Russia wasn't a country till 1991, but I chose to let it go and instead commented on how lucky we are that the aliens landed in our country!
The Batu Caves are very cool and were what I really wanted to see. There is a huge gold statue in front and it's 1000 steps to the top. That's a lot of steps when it's hot, humid and you have a backpack on. I also didn't drink enough water. I tried, but I got dehydrated the last couple days and was catching up. As my dad loves to tell me, if you start hydrating the day before an event you are too late. Touché, Dad! I sat at the top of the temple and drank lots
of water till I was sure I would barf on a holy temple. People kept looking at me, probably because I'm 5'8, white and blonde, was dripping sweat in the heat and was BRIGHT red. I wasn't made for hot weather, what can I say?
At the top there were caves. Much to my dismay, there was an additional flight of stairs to reach the very top, but once I reached it I found that cave full of monkeys! Totally worth the climb! They climbed all over the walls and there were little babies too!! I sat on a bench for about an hour and watched the monkeys steal things from tourists. They would take bags out of their hands, climb back up the walls and ate what they wanted and threw down what they didn't. I just sat on a bench, bright red and dripping sweat, laughing at the monkeys and taking selfies with them. Everyone thought I was nuts, but I didn't care cause it was the best day!
I almost went into the bat cave which apparently is supposed to be pretty cool but the wait was 40 minutes and I decided to head down
to explore some more. I wanted to buy bananas and climb back up, but I was out of water and decided it was a bad idea.
I walked around the shops and found some crappy kid who was being mean to a cat. He tried to kick it and I gave him a dirty look. He tried to follow it sneakily and then threw a toy at it. I yelled at him and he ran away. I wanted to throw something at him too, but decided I probably didn't want to spend time in Malaysian jail.
After I went to the twin towers. They are apparently a huge tourist attraction. It's just 2 matching towers. Meh, I don't know why I went. I guess I don't appreciate architecture.
Now realizing that I have no interest in seeing big buildings, I decided to skip the Kuala Lumpur tower and started walking toward China Town. Fun fact, I really cant read a map. A nice guy pointed me in the right direction and told me how to catch the train. I tried but gave up and took an Uber instead. Ended up costing me a dollar and I consider
that a dollar well spent (air conditioner!)
I tried going to the mosque in China town. It's supposed to be beautfiul, but it's closed for construction. Oh, well. China town stressed me out a bit and I don't really like super crowded places so I just took a ride back to the airport. Now I'm waiting for my flight. I leave in 4 hours for Sydney 😊
