Kuala Lumpur

Malaysian Airlines flight from Sydney to Kuala Lumpur.

Phil could get quite close, but one step further and the bird flung its wing and beak at him.
We'd been planning our trip to Sri Lanka for almost a year, but when the time came to book the tickets, we realized we could add on a few days in Malaysia on our way. Thanks to Victor and JoJo for good advice on accommodation (the Swiss Inn in Chinatown, Kuala Lumpur) and to Hee Zee for brochures and advice on things to see, do, eat and how to get to them. Our trip was greatly enhanced by your well-placed advice.

The KL City Hop On, Hop Off bus makes a big circuit to the major tourist attractions, offering 23 places to get off and check things out. The ticket lasts all day, so it's good for as long as you're still standing. We chose to hop off at the KL Bird Park, "World's Largest Free-flight Walk-in Aviary" and were delighted to walk amongst a legion of different birds and also peer into cages for those that needed a more defined space.

Think: Hot day, sun cream, water bottles, where's the camera?, "Oh look at this one!"
