So, arriving in KL was hectic! The bus dropped everyone off amidst lots of other big buses, all with very loud engines running. And it was right on a really busy road too. Plus, a bloody hot day again! We went to a hostel recommended by Jenna and it was a bit of a hot sweaty mission, only to find out the room was 70 Ringitt which was heaps compared to the 35 we had previously paid (turns out, 70 is more like average). So we went to another, but that was only 65 only we were too knackered to continue looking, so we settled. Room wasn't great, bed sheet was stained, no sheet to go over you, no towels or anything. Plus, it turned out to be right over a really noisy bar! Bed was comfy tho. Anyways, we only stayed 2 nights after we decided we're not really city people and we were dying to get away to the countryside again.
Saturday we got up and headed to the Petronas Towers to queue up for skybridge tickets. Out allocated tickets weren't till 4.30pm so we decided to spend the day at the Batu Caves - a Hindu site
13km outside of the city. When we arrived we were glad we had made the effort, and the caves were stunning! There was a giant gold statue guarding the 200 and something steps up the the cave. It looked cool as anything! So, we started trudging up these steps, eyes firmly on feet and not on steps left the climb, when suddenly a monkey tried to grab the food out of Mike's hands! Several monkey photos later, we arrived at the top to realise there were many, many more monkeys up there. Inside the caves were massive stalactites & Hindu shrines set into the walls. It was ace. On the way down again, Mike decided to feed a mummy monkey who had a baby monkey clinging to her chest. She would reach out and take the food right out of his hand (photo to follow!). When he had non left he showed her his empty hands and she scampered off again (good monkey).
Arriving back in the city centre, after much getting lost on the bus and a sneaky cheeseburger, we went back to Petronas Towers for our skybridge visit! It was chucking it down with rain by this
point and the mist was closing in, so the views weren't as good as they could be, but it was still worth doing. Tickets were free, afterall.
In the evening we went to the Saturday night market in Little India. A whole long street was closed to traffic and was lined with stalls. A good half selling food, so we cruised up and down eating bits here and there. Afterwards, we went for one last trip to The Petronas one last time to see them at night. They looked amazing all shiny and lit up!
Next day we decided to get out of the city and head to The Cameron Highlands. The city was just a bit too noisy, congested & generally city-like for us country folk I think!
