Hi Folks!
Well it has been a while since our last blog and we have packed in loads. However we are gutted as both our cameras broke and we lost about 100 pics (including Steve Irwin's zoo/Noosa/Byron Bay/old naked men fishing on a nudist beach) then we didn't have a camera for Perth or Singapore but it's OK now as I have a shiny fab new camera courtesy of my Dad as a very early birthday pressie! Yay!
So since we last wrote we have left good old Oz behind, I was pretty sad to leave after being there for so long and having such a great time. I could go back and live in Melbourne in a minute, it rocks!! So before we left we managed to pack in quite a lot. The day after our Fraser Island trip we were pre-booked to go dolphin kayaking - bad planning my friends, very bad. We were absolutely dying, I thought I was going to be sick and we were absolutely pants at it. It did make it worthwhile when the dolphins came really close though, that was pretty cool! That night we were so exhausted we went to bed
at 7pm, only to be rudely awoken by a drunk Irishman shouting 'hello sleeping ladies' then proceeding to snore like a train for the entire night! Lovely. Next stop was Noosa which was really lovely and chilled out so we had a nice time recharging our batteries there. We did a coastal walk and were meant to see Koala's but didn't spot any. We did however stumble across the nudist beach where old crinkley men were striding about with their fishing rods in the buff politely saying 'g'day girls'. WHERE DO YOU LOOK???? We also went to Steve Irwin's Zoo for a day. It was pretty good, lots of crocs as you can imagine. We got to pat Koala's and go in a big field and play with the kangaroos, they are so cool! It was quite sad though, it is like the man himself is still alive. I am a big wimp and had a tear in my eye several times! Steve, you are a legend!!!
So next we were off to Byron Bay which is a really cool surfing town with a great beach. We stayed at a place called the Arts Factory which used to be
a Hippy commune, and it almost still was! Most chilled out place we have stayed full of weird and wonderful people! Had a few really good nights out there (Gwen we went to Cheeky Monkeys and danced on the tables!) and also had our first (and only)fight! It was pretty serious, you see Fi thought she knew the way home, I thought it was the other way, neither of us actually knew but drunkenly stormed off in different directions not wanting to admit we were wrong. Luckily we have now gotten over this rift! Ha ha! We did a day trip on the 'Happy Bus' to a funny little place called Nimbin, very very odd! It is a tiny little town also known as 'Amsterdam in the Bush'. It is full of old hippies and they can basically do what they want...which is get very very stoned. So we checked it out, met some locals, may have sampled a
very normal cookie or two then left on the Happy Bus very...um....happy! After all the adventures of the East coast we jetted over to Perth (me on a lovely Quantas plane with food and movies, Fi on Virgin Blue paying $10
for a cuppa soup) for our final week. We stayed with my Auntie, Uncle and cousins in Cottesloe near the beach. I can't tell you how nice it was to be in a nice house, in our own room, eating nice home cooked food! (Thank you Stephen and Kate!!!) We had a really nice time checking out Perth, Freemantle and Rottnest Island. Rottnest is an island with gorgeous bays and snorkelling so we hired bikes for the day and cycled loads. It is full of little wallibies called Quokka's that are really cute. We had a few hours to kill at the Island pub before we caught the ferry and were bought several bottles of wine by an Australian man, which led to us trying to do yoga with some Aussies and in return attempting (badly) to teach them Scottish Country Dancing. Consequently the ferry journey back is still rather hazy! Before we left the fair land of Oz we did a spot of body boarding, the waves were pretty big and we had so much fun, apart from being wiped out once or twice! So that was Oz....
Flew into Singapore where the heat really hit us and
met up with our chums Sarah and Darren from Fraser Island. The next day we caught the bus up to Kuala Lumpur to stay at my Dad's apartment. We have been eating at very nice restaurants and lazing around the pool so having a lovely time. My Dad took us to Club Med at Cherating beach on the East coast of Malaysia for a few days which was amazing. It was a real 5 star resort, plus all you can eat/drink and all the activities are free. Free bar people...Fi and I were in our element sipping cocktails the whole time! We went sailing, tried some acrobatics on the trapeze, went swimming, dancing, sang in the karaoke (VERY VERY BADLY, unfortuanately my dad has video evidence of this), we ate, ate, ate some more, lobsters, mussels, the lot! Mmmm! It was very nice indeed! We also went to the Batu caves near KL which are really cool and absolutely swarming with monkeys. They are really cute but vicious little buggers. One tried to attack me to get the can of juice in my hand. My dad had to rescue me while I screamed and really started to regret not getting
Batu Caves
Sacred Hindu caves near KL the rabies vaccination!! We have been into KL city centre a few times and to China town where we bought a few bargains. On Thursday night Malaysia was celebrating it's 50th year of independence (Merdeka night) so there was serious partying going on and it was a really good night. They have a countdown at midnight just like hogmany! So far we are really enjoying Asia although we are attracting some strange attenion. At the caves 3 girls ran up to us and asked if they could have their photos taken with us. They were squealing and giggling and very excited which was just bizarre but it turns out this may happen a lot as the next day the same thing happened but with 2 grown men. Oh and someone thought Fi was Princess Di, ha ha!! Only 4 weeks to go until we are home, back in the real world but we still have plenty of places left to see, Thailand next stop so will keep the blogs coming!
Hope everyone had a great summer and we're looking forward to seeing you all again!!
Take care, lots of love Lisa and Fi xxxxx
P.S. Have added
our underwater pics from the Great Barrier Reef as well, admire my fantastic photography skills please, I was at the time being caught in currents, stung by coral and bleeding while Fi abandoned me in open water, ha ha!
