Hi there! Just a quick report about our short stay in Malaysia & Singapore.

We had to rush through Malaysia in about a week so we only had the chance to see the capital Kuala Lumpur. The climate gets very tropical the more you go south: it's very hot and humid and every day at exactly 3pm you get a nice cloudburst to cool things down. Luckily the city is crammed with huge shopping malls which have an AC that makes a fridge look like an oven. So we sheltered during the daily shower by playing snooker, bowling or doing anything else we could find in the malls (even Imax theaters and rollercoasters...)

The main attraction though in Kuala Lumpur is of course the Petronas towers or twin towers. Having been the highest building in the world for quite some years with its 452 meters, it looks twice as high as all the other skyscrapers in the city. You can go up in the skybridge which connects the two towers at the 41st floor (out of a total of 88 floors), maybe you'll recognize this bridge from the high flying scene in the movie 'Entrapment'.

Singapore is very comparable to Malaysia: same climate and heaps of shopping malls. Only difference is that it rained continuously for a couple of days there instead of just one hour every afternoon. So we didn't see much of the city and just took a quick look at the riverfont with all the skyscrapers rising up right next to the river.

On the 1st of March we took our flight to Darwin, Australia. We'll be heading straight down south to Alice Springs and the famous red Ayer's Rock. More news on the blog after 3000 kilometers through the desert.

Malaysia is a melting pot of Malaysian, Indian & Chinese culture. For this reason the food was the best we had in Asia.

verzoekje van Paul
Great to see that you are having a great time, its soo much nicer seeing places when you are travelling for a long time because you're totally mellowed out. I have to confess apart from the first journal I haven't looked at any of the following ones since now...I suppose I get too envious!! Also funny to see the pictures from the beginning of your travels and compare those to the latest one...you look like you've been travelling for a while if you know what I mean. Anyway enough of my chitchat, Paul wants to know if you, Nick that is, can contact us when you get back home, wonders if you might be interested to work for us for a while. Let us know what your plans are when you get back. Enjoy and take care Greetz Sophie
