Hello...
Before we begin we suggest getting a nice hot brew before settling down to read as we have a lot of catching up to do! Also, we have updated our blog with some photos. Unfortunately my downloaded disc has been put on DVD and I cant access my photos so the 'dirty' ones (ANNA!) like the sand in our teeth will have to wait a while : ( I've taken the best from Maz's bunch so enjoy! xx
The train journey from Singapore to KL station took about 6 hours (but we did get to see Harry Potter on the train! ) Originally we were going to stay in China town but the tourist info lady advised us to stay in the 'Golden Triangle'. The taxi dropped us off at JL Bukit Bintag road where Maz went into the first hotel and booked it as it was lateish and we didnt want to waste the evening looking for accommodation. The room is so seedy. IT WAS ALSO VERY AIR CONDITIONED! When I called reception as soon as we walked in they said they could turn it down in our room centrally which they did so I stayed quiet.
That night we went and ate at ''The Ship''. We wanted meat and they claimed to have the best steak in town. The waiters and waitresses are dressed in sailors outfits and at the beggining of the menu it shows you a dress code so you know who are bar tenders, managers etc etc. Quite amusing. Then we went for a walk and found a cool bar (the lick bar) outside playing really good music. I ended up getting quite tipsey on singapore slings but we made it home earlish for our sightseeing session the next day.
In the morning the weather was great. It was very hot. I had a really rough night because of the air conditioning. Apparantly the bit of info they forgot to tell me was that the whole buildings air conditioning is dealt with centrally so they cant just adjust our room! Arrhhhh! After breakfast we got a cab to the Bird Park. We enjoyed the Brazil one so much we really wanted to go and experience ''the best avairay park in the world''....hmm we werent that impressed. Brazil one much better! Plus the deer park was closed so I was gutted. We then
decided to walk to the Merdaka Square but the heavens opened up and boy did it start raining so we got a cab to take us there. Luckily there was shelter but there wasnt much we could see as the rain got worse and thunder and lightening began to strike.... we saw one of the most brightest clearest lightening bolt ever! So we got another cab to take us back to the hotel where we went and ate at the lebanese restaurant next door and treated ourselves to a hubba bubba (mint flavour). In the late afternoon we went to China Town which is quite grotty and glad we didnt stay there. Everyone harrasses you to buy something and it does start to get a bit annoying esp in the heat and bustle of all these crowded streets. The market is really cool. They sell fake EVERYTHING.... When they get tipped off that the police are coming you should see everyone scramble to hide there most expensive and precious stock. Its a sight in itself. We also passed a shop selling christmas stuff and seeing my first proper christmas tree made me slightly homesick (whose going to give out the
christmas presents this year)???
The next morning I woke up really angry. Hadn't slept again because of the air con, even Maz admitted it was very cold. Also my legs are covered in huge itchy bites from the Bird Park - I felt myself being bitten so yes I WAS ANGRY and uncomfortable. We woke up especially early today to go and enter the twin towers as the tickets go on sale at 8.30 and its on a first come first served basis.... HOWEVER, viewing the towers on a MONDAY is closed! How gutted. This isnt mentioned anywhere! But we did get to see how huge the towers are.. I would hate to work so high up - 87 floors! We then walked to the tourist board and then to the KL tower, through the 'forest', but it was the same route that the amazing race asia contestants had to go through so I felt part of it.... We enquired about lunch or dinner there but they were fully booked and plus it was a bit over our budget! The KL tower is really high and theres a lift that takes you to the observation bit. Your ears pop as you speed upwards and I felt like we were in willy wonkers lift! As Maz took pictures from the windows and looked out of the telescopes, I was looking for dodgy characters with big rucksacks.... you know me! (they do check rucksacks before you enter but still)! We then got there train which looks so futuristic back to where we were staying. For lunch we found a restaurant which serves up dim sum and this time it was really really nice. Maybe, dare I say it, on par with sushi. yummy! Then as an extra treat for ourselves, we went and had a his and hers haircut. First we staked out the joints and then when I got a good feel for one we went in... AND FINALLY, the angie revenge attack on my head has finally disappeared. For 6 pounds I got a spa treatment, a wicked wash and a brilliant haircut. The best I ever had... and they done a really good job on Maz too. As it started to pee down again, very very heavy we ran to the nearby Irish pub and settled in for the evening.
KL is really really nice esp for a big city. Not finding the people that friendly or helpful though which has surprised us. Also, the Taxis are not metered and they try to rip you off by saying the weather or time of day pushes up prices but we never paid more than R10 each trip... probably should have paid less but they werent having any of it!
Because it is very obviously monsoon season in Malaysia at the moment and as we only have a week before boucs and leena come over we have decided to revise our initial plans a bit and now we are heading to Cameroon Highlands. See you there. xx
