I arrived in the early morning at Surat Thani. A hidden "Town" who don't even deserve the name town... That's probably why the German consultant (Loose Travelguide) mentioned Surat Thani as a travel hub - and indeed, this it is. After leaving the train I've been confronted with some "nice guys" trying to sell a taxi ride to the town since the central station is located outside the town. I've preferred taking the bus for 12 Baht. Arriving in the town you have to fight your way through the sales men's to the national bus station. Just a short five min. walk but every step you take you have been offered some useless stuff. The bus to the Khao Sok national park takes another two hours and so I arrived in the early afternoon searching for a nice hotel. In the consultant something was written about a hotel which has some nice tree houses and so I decided to take one of these. Finding the host was not that easy. There is no street to the hotel and you have to walk through a nice little river to get there. Unfortunately this wasn't mentioned in the travel guide.... The first day
I have spent relaxing at the veranda with a chilled bottle of Chang beer.
The next day I intended to walk a short trail at the NP. A guy told me about this track and that this should be really nice. They have met some monkeys during their walk... of course I have been exited and hoped to see some monkeys as well. But the only wildlife I have met where two leechers at my feet as you can see at the photos. At first the trek was really fine but after a while the trek became invisible to me. So I just followed the elephant poo to find my destination - btw. this was a waterfall. After two hours walking in the rainforest I decied to return because I have had no intention to get lost in the jungle. If you get lost in the jungle, you are lost and nobody will pick you up. Take this for granted. Somehow I've managed to return and as you can imagine I was really lucky about that.
Because of this I've booked a guided cave tour for the next day and this was a really good decision. After spending
the morning to go for the caves by bus, boat and feet we arrived at the cave entrance. Luckily I've taken the headlight with me. A river flows through the cave and sometimes it gets quite wet and cold as you can see at the pictures. Also, we have met some nice spiders. The guide adviced us not to touch one of these spiders since their bite could make you feel quite uncomfortable 😊 Finally everybody makes it through the caves and we returned to our hotel. Just a few words to the hotel. The room was really nice as you can see but sadly the host was a way reserved and so the location has no face and heart at all. It was really a shame for a location like this.
The following day I headed to Krabi. A little town, located near Phuket. I have checked into the smile hostel, which is run by a guy named Patrick. Not sure if he was German, but might be. As always I've spended the first evening with relaxing and having a nice dinner at the local market. Local night markets in Thailand are really awesome. You can buy the
local food for a reasonable price. Always great value for money and I would highly recommend them to anybody. Just see the pictures.
Due to the short time of my stay I've booked an island hopping tour for the next day. The tour has been organized very well, but I've don't enjoy it much at all. For me it was just to touristy and on every damn island we visited you could buy the local beer, cocktails and whatever. I would have been fine with that if the rubbish would be disposed properly but they don't do that. They throw them just on their little island or into the sea. How can a man be such a silly fool? To much waste and the tourist won't come anymore, this is a fact. And the government don't give a f**k on that...
The following day I left Thailand, heading to Penang in Malaysia. Penang is a little Island located at the Malacca Strait - an important trans-atlantic shipping route. The first time I had seen Penang at its capital George Town I've felt like a fool. In my imagination it was a tiny little town, but I have been
so wrong! It's a large city with shopping Mal's and skyscrapers as well. This time I have decided to choose a homestay at Batu Ferringhi which is located a bit outside George Town. The host was Annie with her husband Raj and her four Kids. Before chosing a host, I normaly do a lot of research to avoid nasty suprises and the internet was full of awesome reviews to this homestay and they all have been proved so right. Annie is a really fantastic host and you feel highly welcome just when you meet her for the first time. All of her children's are so polite and well educated. I cannot appreciate this place high enough. If one of my fellow readers is ever coming to Ferringhi, this host is the only choice! I've stayed for six days at Ferringhi. Spending my time at George Town city where you can feel the British empire almost everywhere due to the old and refurbished buildings. You have to check out my pictures and take a look at yourself. I have also made a day trip to Langkawi which should be a beautiful island at the sea. Well as I have been there
the weather was bad and the island looks so messy. Maybe I have to return at another day the explore the real Langkawi, but for this time the highlight of day has been the heavy moving sea at my return to George Town, seeing all the people who can't take the waves 😊 First I mentioned to take a picture of all the pale faces but then decided not to do. Don't want to offend somebody.
After leaving Penand I am heading to Kuale Lumpur and Singapore. The next time you will read something of me I should be at Singepore.
