Edit Blog Post
well here i am again. at this precise moment i am sitting in an internet cafe in kings cross sydney. this is a cool city but more of that in my next blog. this installment is totally dedicated to my new favourate place in the whole world. Kota Kinabalu or KK as its affectionally known by the locals is on the west side of sabah, borneo. its the capital and is a city but only small compared to liverpool or sydney. we were there for a week and what a week it has been. we touched down after an immence time in the jungle and were looking forward to a nice week of sunning it on the beach. it was raining and the skies were grey due to fires in indonesia. i was slightly gutted to be fair but there was plenty of bars and eating places to keep us happy and it was still roasting so i was trying to be optimistic. we got to our hostel which was pretty central and sorted out our stuff. the place was lovely and clean and the staff were top, which is what i had come to expect from the malaysian people. so
anyways we decided to head into town for a few cold ones and this is where we met our drinking buddie and all round cool bird ms helen kemp from oz (hello hel i have found a pie floater by the way!! my mind is at rest) so there you go the gang was in place so we went for a beer or 50 and then headed back to the hostel. next day it was still rainin?? doh. we decided to do some touristy stuff and went to kinabalu park which is about an hour out off kk. this place is massive and leads up to mount kinabalu which is the largest mountain in saff east asia, anyway it was a nice place but seeing as tho it was rainin and you could only see about 10 meters in front of you it wasnt the best day for it but we went for a walk and that was great. anyways enough of the boring boo hoo hoo it was raining malarkey and onto the good stuff, because the weather was a blessing in disguise i can tell you. because of the weather we decided to get our frog licences (PADI
seafront
the islands and a big fish Open water course) this means we can scuba and stuff and we thought it would pass some time and sounded cool so we did it. next day bright and early we got to the dive centre for our day of school! no way i thought, but it was ok and i ended up with a cool 100% in the exam baby! i think its the only 100% ever?!?!here we met our instructor too, step up mr russell cheetham from old blighty!! wotto! really nice guy and was one of the reasons we enjoyed our time in kk so much. @ the end of the day he intructed us to not get drunk and have an early night as we had 2 days of solid diving ahead. ok we thought, maybe a couple of drinks would be fine (yeah right) 2 drinks turned into 10 and i was a bit tipsy (yeah right i think the world is bladdered adam) and me and roz decided upon a spot of karioke!! she sand like a virgin and i sang great balls of fire to the amusement of the malaysian people!! funny night it was!! so anyway next morning i wake up a
karaoke!!!
crooner!! deb, lighter no 2 bit sore but as soon as we looked out of the window what did we see?? SUN!!! WOOHOO!!!! the skys had cleared and we had wonderful hot beating, brit burning solar!! anyways over to the dive centre we went to get kitted up and onto the boat we got to head to police beach which is one of the island off the coast. really cool day, cool weather, cool people what more can i say!?! we did all the basics of diving like breathin under water and stuff like that. really good day apart from me getting stung by somethin but i felt cool to have a diving injury!! back home for kip because we were knackered and then up early again for dive day 2!! on this day we went to another island called sapi island (check the photos people. not too bad eh??) here we finished the skills and we were tested on them under water. we also did some proper dives where we went 13 meters down, and it was a really amazing experience. maybe the best of my life i would say. we saw so many fish inluding nemos and batfish and stingrays!!! (no jokes please)
as well as beautiful coral everywhere. we also saw a school of about 2000 fish just above us. it was just immence and you see so much more wildlife than you do on land, and this is coming from someone who has just been in the jungle!! it was just amazing! anyways once we got our diving badges sewn onto our speedos we decided to go out and celebrate and chose our favourate boozer cocoon on the sea front. great place great band funny staff lovely beer and a good time apart from some of the punters. women you think?? they may look like it but on inspection from helen who lives in thailand she told us they were 100% male!?!? scary stuff but very funny all the same. anywaysthe next 2 days were spend on sapi island chilling in the sun and getting burnt!! this included me running out onto the beach and screaming at the sun fists raised "BURN ME SUN, BURN ME I DARE YOU!!!" and it did too!! the japanese tourist thought it was amusing anyways!! also me and rozzer went on a parathingy which was cool and dunc did some jetskiing which was cool. more
drinks and food was had and then it was goodbye to wonderful KK. if u can get over to kk do it, the people, the food, the weather (most of the time) is just wonderful and it will always hold special memories for me. also if you do get you PADI course done here. its the cheapest place to do it. 130 quid for the whole lot and the staff at sabah dive are great!! so anyways i hope i have not bored you all with me incessant ramblings and if so i apologise but in a nutshell i loved the place. special thanks to global borneo backpackers for a great friendly place to stay, also russ the instructor and his mrs jo who were absolutely great people, and lastly thanks to a certain ms helen kemp. top girl and a great laugh. cheers for helping make the experience a top one!! see you in perth ya ripper!! anyways thats me done enjoy the photos and you will here from me soon with some more giberish from oz!!
