what a way to welcome in the new chinese year!! we were just walking up to a restaurant for dinner and found a hive of activity in chinatown!! after we finished our dinner we headed back to this site of activity and found ourselves amongst the locals enjoying a lion dance and caught a glimpse of the penang chief minister!! it was amazing watching two men in a lion costume jump from different podiums within the street!!

our day was a bit random, we drove (and got lost so many times in penang and georgetown) around the island. we swam in the sea and had the local speciality on the sands!! it was phenomenal!!! we had tea in the street where the local policemen were hanging out, and it was perfect indian tea, so sweet and milky!! and we visited three gorgeous buddhist temples, except the first one was so commercialised; there were hawkers and shops within the temple itself which made me highly confused with my understanding of buddhism and its relinquishing of material goods. i really enjoyed the experience but i need to elarn more about buddhism to really appriciate what i saw today!!

Tomorrow i leave my dad at penang airport and the adventure continues solo!! i'm so nervous but really excited!! i head to bangkok for one night and then transfer on to luang prabang in laos!!! after seeing the poverty in the streets of penang, i think i'm a bit more prepared for what i will witness in the streets of laos...but it'll be shocking nonetheless!! i have to go up and pack my rucksack (it's so heavy!!!!) but then we are treating ourselves for one last tiger beer together in the hotel bar...if its not closed!!! :)
