Edit Blog Post
Hey again… feels like loads has happened since we last wrote (even though you will be getting our last blog today too… we have been having computer nightmares in Malaysia)!
So Pilch got an unconditional offer after his interview and starts at Plumpton on 11th May! We had to reschedule the telephone interview after realizing that we were in fact in a different timezone (we had gone ahead 1hour from Thailand to Malaysia) - we hadn’t realized for two days!!
The day after our last blog we had a little bit of a nightmare day - involving trying to find somewhere half decent to stay on the island and then discovering the time zone change and then realizing we had a virus on our memory stick and had lost all our photos! We spent a long time in the Canon shop getting this all fixed after a brief heart attack! It was major panic as we had Pilch’s bungee jump video on there which none of you have seen yet… plus Chloe’s jump video (rest assured Chloe we have them safe now on CD)!
Our last day on Langkawi was really good… we hired a car and explored
the island. First we went to the Geopark where there is a cable car which we took up to the top - the viewpoints are 700m above sea level. Next we went to Pantai Kok (nearby beach) which was completely empty and beautiful - we stopped for a swim before moving on to find a waterfall and another beach at the top of the island.
On the road there a family of monkeys ran in front of the car and we stopped to have a little chat with them and take some photos - they were as curious of us as we were of them but we kept the window and the door shut!!
The waterfall was a bit of a disappointment with no water but the next beach was gorgeous with clear water and white sands! There were several monkeys hanging out here too and Tanya noticed one going through some bags of people who were swimming. Running towards it and making aggressive shooing noises didn’t actually seem to work until quite close to the monkey - Tanya was beginning to think she may actually be in a 1 on 1 with it … but it ran
away and there were some very grateful people heading out of the sea!
On the road to the next waterfall we had to break quite suddenly when we realized there were two monitor lizards having a chat in the middle of the road - we had to beep a lot to get them to move on - driving around the island is so much more fun than in Worthing! 😊
We walked up to another waterfall and then headed back tired and happy from a day of adventuring. Next day we got a ferry to Penang … we spent one day in Georgetown - the area we were in was like being back in India again with Bollywood movies on at the cinema, lots of local Indians and Pilch even bought some Beedi’s (Indian herbal cigarettes) from the local shop! As it was Tanya’s sisters birthday we struggled to find a phone to ring her on to wish her well but nothing is that simple here and took about half an hour involving some local helping us use the phone card! Hayley - it was good to speak to you but I am not sure you will ever
understand how strange the conversation was from my end!!
Next morning we got a local bus to the local beach - Batu Ferringhi which is where we are now. None of the internet cafes seem to like photo uploads so sorry no photos again!! We will update as soon as we can.
We head to East Malaysia tomorrow - hopefully if we can figure out the local bus service… but next stop is Perhentian Islands so more white sand and blue sea hopefully! So far our visit of Malaysia has been different to expectation - everything seems quite difficult to do even though they are well set up for package holiday tourists, also everything seems a little like a tacky theme park... quite different to what we have seen elsewhere on our travels. We hope to see some real Malaysia on the other side - we haven't even been offered any authentic Malay food yet- all the resturants offer Indian, Italian, Chinese, Thai, Western..... bit odd really! Oh - and we almost ended up at the Grand Prix in Kuala Lumpa which starts today but thought our budgets would thank us more if we didn't! 😞
Hope
you are all good… will be seeing you soon! Only 26 days to go….!
