Our Journey

We flew out of Seattle to Taipai, Taiwan, than to Hong Kong, than to Singapore. After four days in Singapore we took a bus to Malacca in Maylaysia, than to Kuala Lumpur. Our next stop is Langui.

This is the room we stayed in the first night in Melaka. Some journaling and relaxing after a hard day of schoo...I mean bus riding.
Well we made it to Melaka in one peice, its half way to Kuala Lumpur on the west side of Malaysia. Its an interesting town, alot of history in that area it seems. A long time ago it was conquered by the Dutch and there are quite a few buildings and graves from that era still around. Most of the attractions of the town are historical rather than beach Thailand types of things.

When we first arrived on the bus we were met by what we thought was the usual types of people trying to promote their hostels and cabs. We were handed multiple fliers and told great rates about where to stay. One man stood out in particular. He looked Indian (India type) and just started rattling off useful sounding information but we were a little skeptical so we just asked where the bus was and told him we might check out one of the hostels he was promoting. Well we walked over to the bus center and walked to the place we thought was the right area of the terminal and the guy shows up again and shows us that we were wrong and it was a little

The Second Hostel, the step up for less cost, we thought it was a good deal
ways away, he also remembered to tell us that there is a free vegetarian place in town sponsored by a Chinese guy. So we got on the bus and found a hostel, not the one we wanted because it was full but another that was manageable and walked around for a little while to a nearby mall. After eating and checking out the area we headed back towards the hostel area to find some place to get internet. Just as we were walking around this dude walks up again and tells us where to find the best internet (without us even asking). Turns out the internet is high speed for about 2.50 RM (somewhere around 60 cents an hour USD). So we go in there and do our thing for about an hour. Once we walk out, I told the guys jokingly "hey I'm sure if we just think of something we need that the guy will be there to help us out" so since we needed to do laundry we thought of laundry soap and walked around the next corner. I looked across the street and there was a man that looked vaguely familiar though with different hair. I

This neat little guy walks around the shore by its fins, they even have little holes they live in.
turned to the guys and said wow check it out there he is, but they didn't believe me at first, but then the man turned and saw us walking on the other side of the street and broke out in a huge grin and waved at us. He then came over and we asked him where to get soap and he told us the nearest place and the cheapest place. We were so blown away that we had to ask what was in it for him. All he gets for doing what he does is a free place to stay and he just helped us with anything we needed.

The locals were awesome in Melaka, smiled and waved whenever we smiled OR waved at them. They also spoke english very well. It was an interesting city, we had quite a few mixed reports but we liked it. Then again we're easy going and easily amused types of guys. Kev and I walked all through the area in one day, through the tourist sites as well as the rundown areas that we were just as interested in. One lady came out from a hut and tried to talk to us

This is where we stayed untill we found the cheaper, much better hostel
in broken English and smiled the whole time. Hopefully the pictures are interesting, there are everything from the largest Chinese cemetery outside China to dragons, so we hope you enjoy.

Cheers,
Dustin
