Langkawi Paradise
The view from "our" beach bar... Ahhh....we have finally found some time in between swimming, sipping cocktails and sailing to update our blog...
Since our last entry we have been in Kuala Lumpur (KL), met up with Annemarie (Maart's sister) and caught a flight to the island of Langkawi. There isn't a whole heap of interesting things to say about KL - it is basically just another busy, dirty city. What did suprise us though is that there really isn't a lot to do - unless you want to go shopping, KL is pretty boring and you can see most of the sights within a couple of days. The shopping part is pretty amazing though with lots of enormous modern shopping malls everywhere. It was very hard on poor Thel to see all these shops, knowing we could not really buy anything as our backpacks would not allow it. The poor thing kept seeing lot of nice things for the house and kitchen for bargain prices...
Langkawi on the other hand is absolutely lush! It is a true bounty paradise and we have been very lucky with our accommodation which was very comfortable and right on the beach! We have spent the last 5 days
Sunsetarama
We were sipping pina colada's as the sun went down...just another day in paradise just lazying around, reading our books, listening to our music and staring at the palm trees against a blue sky. The resort where we were staying also had a great restaurant and beach bar attached to it, so all in all it was very "us" :-).
For NYE we headed to a bar just further along the beach. It was by far the healthiest NYE we have ever had - we had so many pina colada's that we are suprised there are any pineapples left on the island!!! Vitamine C overload!! They had a massive bonfire set up on the beach that was lit just before midnight. The staff had a marvelous time throwing kerosine onto the flames which made them huge. Very exciting!!!
Annemarie's birthday was on 2 January and we booked ourselves in for a sailing trip which was loads of fun. The boat had one of those "boomnets" attachd to it in which you can hang onto dear life - they call it a salt water jacuzzi, but we have certainly been in much more relaxed ones...Loads of fun though and the Captain was a great bloke who allowed Thel to steer the boat for
Houston, we have a problem...
The girls navigating....'I think the bar is that way!' almost half the time. We would have been spotted all the way from the Thai coast as the smile was HUGE!!! She has now found her true calling in life, so don't expect her back anytime soon.
We are at Penang at the moment and ar getting ready to explore the island. Apart from an ipod drama (Daimo watch out - we might need your help), all is well. Check out the piccies!!!
Hope you are all well and had a great Christmas and NYE.
Love to everyone - we are thinking of you.
