Hotel Pictures of our recent (and only) break since arriving in Malaysia.
Jay and I have just returned from a trip to Langkawi - it is an island off the northwest coast
of Malaysia (very close to Thailand). We relaxed, pigged-out and went kayaking most days.
We went on 2 nature walks at our resort - one in the morning and one at night.
Our resort was situated in the jungle so there was LOTS to see. At night the flying lemurs were
in full "swing" as were some bats and ghekos (who sounded like dogs barking). In the morning
the monkeys were waking up. We had both macaques (the cheeky ones) and dusty langurs (the docile
cute ones). We loved the langurs but the macaques were very bold and were taking over.
The females have their babies after only three short months and can become pregnant right
away. Each male has about 10 "wives" so you do the math!! The langurs don't stand a chance.
The Great Hornbills were amazing to see! They mate for life and are almost always together.
Their wingspan is larger than that of a sea eagle as it can stretch to 2 metres. You

hear the sound of their wings if they fly overhead.
We went on a Mangrove kayak trip one day with a tour guide named Dev, a couple from Finland and
a Japanese girl. It was lots of fun. We saw 2 vipers hanging on to some branches, monkeys
swimming in the water, monitor lizards, sea eagles, kingfishers, mudskippers and blue crabs.
There were crocodiles there apparently - but they were too shy to show themselves.
The monkey in the picture called "monkey business" posed nicely. I was so excited that Jay got a good shot
of him that I completely forgot the 2 monkey rules 1. don't look at them directly ( I did) and 2. don't
show them your teeth (I smiled). Needless to say both of my reactions were taken as a sign of
aggression and elicited a lovely hissing growl from Mr. Monkey. Was it just me...or did we paddle
slightly faster after that warning??
We stopped at a cave - which is where we took the bat picture. In December we hope to do
another nature trip for more trekking. This will be a quick first entry - just wanted to
