***First of all, my last entry got screwed up and only 1/3 of the story got posted to my website, so if you're still interested, please go back and read it again! Also, since I posted the Hong Kong Delights blog, travelblog has done some crappy restructuring to their site and most of the pictures now have to be opened individually. Sorry for the cruddy new formatting, I have no say since I don't pay a cent for this site. *** For the purpose of my trip, I've labeled Macau a separate country from China (since I had to go through customs in HK and I got some pretty spiffy stamps in my passport). Plus it makes my final tally of countries bigger! However, Macau is technically a region/territory of The People's Republic of China, as ... read more

So since Kuala Lumpur, we stayed in Manila and in Bohol, where we did the scuba diving you saw pictures of. Ate lots of seafood, met a bunch of interesting people. Oh - this entry is gonna be short cuz I don't have much time right now. On Bohol we also went to the Chocolate Hills, visited an old church, and saw tarsiers, which are the smallest primates in the world. Then we returned to Manila, and spent the day at the big shopping mall across from our hotel. We didn''t really do much in Manila, because it's a pain in the ass city where everyone tries to rip you off - especially cab drivers. Pam and I said our goodbyes, which finally leaves me to travel on my own. I was pretty nervous at first ... read more

Wednesday June 21th I woke up really early Wednesday on what me and Richard had agreed would be "museum day" (admission to museums is free on wednesday in Hong Kong) and decided to work on my previous blog at Cyber Clan before leaving. I bought some cheap cookies at 7/Eleven (a cornerstore that is ubiquitous in asian cities) and ate while typing. I didn't have enough time to finish so I went back to the dorm to do some laundry. At that point I realized I had a slight diarhea, not the explosive type but the "I-need-to-go-to-the-toilet-every-hour" type which was annoying. I felt good enough to do something so I went with Richard to Honk Kong Museum of History, which was a 20 minutes walk away. Free stuff is cool, but high quality free stuff ... read more

From Bangkok, I flew with Catherine to Macau on budget airline Air Asia. It was already raining as we arrived and we both got completely soaked while looking for a guest house. Hardly anyone spoke English and we had to rely on a small map and some luck to get us to where we wanted to be. Macau is an interesting place for its architecture and Portuguese influence. The Chinese allowed the Protuguese to establish a settlement in Macau in exchange for conquering the pirates who plauged the area in 1557. Since that time, Macau had become a central trading point between China and foreign markets. Since the establishment of Hong Kong however, Macau has gone in to decline which is evdient through much of its run down and poorly maintained buildings, in stark contrast to ... read more

So here I am. I made it to China, well Macau so far. And guess what? The street names are all in Portugese, so I can read AND understand it! It's great! The only thing is when it comes to asking for directions, well most people here speak Cantonese, so it doesn't work for me. But with my " tien-tien" knowledge of Mandarin, it helps a little bit, well sorta. Macau is a beautiful place with really nice architecture. Kinda reminds me of Malacca in Malaysia really. Same-same, but not really. Not as old looking as Melaka. It's very clean here. The food is pretty good too. Staying in a very small hostel. Pretty much a flat converted into a hostel. Only 3 rooms there, 2 being dorms that sleep 4 (bunkbeds) and 1 single room. ... read more

Coming very close to the end of our HK & Macau campaign. Early morning the public bus outside our hotel took us to Macau Tower. Standing 338m above ground, it is probably the 9th or 10th tallest observation tower in the world. Don’t ask me which tower is the tallest though :P The glass floor panels on the observatory deck at 58th storey were pretty scary at first sight. Afterall, we were looking straight to the ground through the panels. It took a while for all of us to be accustomed to it before finding true courage to sit on the panels. There was a constant worry that the glass panels would somehow give way under our weight. Of course, they never did. And btw, me and S did have some luck with the jackpot machines ... read more

Our final morning in HK… Breakfast at Tsim Sha Tsui MacDonald’s. I noticed a small kid lying on the table with his head down while waiting for his mum. It was quite a cute sight. Its ham macaroni for breakfast today thinking that it was something unique. It’s bland even though it seemed healthy. We split into two taxis where they brought us to the ferry terminal to catch a fast ferry to Macau. It simply reminded me of my BMT days in Tekong having to take the weekly fast craft. Our 8 Days 7 Nights in HK had finally come to a complete end. 1 hour later ~ Welcome to Macau A free shuttle bus from the ferry terminal took us to Taipa Hotel. “Yes it’s a hotel finally…...” Even though it’s only a 3 ... read more
