We got to the Vietnamese border and got stamped out before driving to the Laos border and getting our visas approved. Then we had the drive to Vientiene, I slept again 9-12 then read my book until 4 when we got off the bus. We bargained a tuk tuk and got to our hostel, dream home! We were starving by this point as we hadn't eaten since dinner, 24 hours before! We went to 'ray's grille' which Iona had been recommended. We walked past it as it is literally a small hut thing with some women and BBQs outside... But looks are deceiving it was one of the best burgers I've had in months! We were pretty tired after as travelling takes it out of you for some reason so we had an early night.
We had breakfast the next day and got chatting to a Canadian girl called Emma. We all decided to go to the Buddha park which has over 200 Buddha statues in. One of them is huge and you can climb inside and up it which was cool. As we were walking around we were stopped by a 15 year old Laos boy. He asked if he
could practice his English with us!!! He said he comes everyday so he can speak with tourists and get better at English and broaden his vocabulary! He was so lovely we chatted with him for ages. We got the local bus back which was cool to see the city. We stopped for a snack on the way home. In the evening we chilled out, it's pretty relaxed in Vientiane. We all had dinner and an early night. The next morning we got a bus to Vang Vieng. The scenery was pretty impressive during the drive and the journey wasn't too bad. We got to 'Pan's place' and checked in to a dorm. It was quite hippyish but cool. It was raining loads so we hung out there chatting to other backpackers. We had a really good vegetable/ rice dinner. In the evening we went out as we were getting a bit cabin fevery! We went to Sakura bar which is pretty famous there as they give out free t shirts that everyone wears across SE Asia saying 'drink triple, see double, act single'. The place is very popular with Koreans who are all hilarious! After we went to a jungle
party which was fun.
We woke a little hungover and to more rain!! It's hard to do anything here when it's pouring as all sights and activities are outside! We went to a cafe and watched friends (for some reason it's on all over Laos in restaurants all day!) when the rain eased we went for a walk about the town to have a look around, it's pretty small but nice. In the evening we got ready to go to Sakura again and met up with a girl called Charlotte that Iona knows. We didn't stay out too late though.
The next day was of course RAINING! We went to watch friends again but were getting a bit tired of being stuck inside! We decided to go tubing - what vang vieng is famous for- you go down the river in arubr stopping at various bars along the way and then tube your way back to town! It was pouring but we decided to see if it was on- it was! They have us life jackets (comforting!) and off we went! We got to the first bar and had a drink and thankfully the rain had eased by then although
we were soaked through already by this point! Then we got in the river and had to attempt to paddle to the other side to get to a bar further down the river. The locals throw water bottles on strong at you and pull you in- it was hilarious!!! We missed the second bar as we all missed the bottles haha the second bar was fun and had beer pong. Then we moved to the last bar which had basketball and all sorts going on! Then we tuned our way back to town as a big group which was really fun. We got back and decided to draw cat faces on and head out to Sakura it was a hilarious night!
Woke up feeling pretty Ropey for a delightful bus journey to Luang Prabang! We got to our hostel and had a triple room (Charlotte, Iona and I.) we went for a walk around town and got some lunch. Then the other two napped as it was raining and I read before going out to dinner. We were all pretty tired so had an early night.
The next day we went to book our buses to Don Det and then
went to see the famous Kuang Si waterfall. It was a nice drive out and when we got there we walked to the top. The waterfall has several layers. We got in the top one - it was freezing! And had loads of little fish nibbling you like the foot spas! Then we went to another layer of it and got in there but not for long! Was really beautiful but a little cold for me haha On the way back we got dropped off at the night market which was really cool. We shopped for a while, had dinner and went back for a girly night of nail painting!
