Hi everyone
Well it's been a few days since my last blog update so I thought I would share what's been going on.
I made a last minute decision to head to Vientiane from vang Vieng. I was just going to hop on the bus and emailed the office to let them know. I got to the meeting point and found Laura on the way. However the bus did not show. She had been confirmed on the bus so one should have showed.
So after wandering around for a while in the heat we headed back to her hostel to use the wifi. Lucky for Laura that we did as she had left her passport behind - things happen for a reason.
When we has wifi connection I checked my emails it appears the bus had been cancelled but no one had told Laura. So,after many exchanges of emails we had a seat on the local bus at 1.30pm and had to be at the pick up point at 12.45 for pick up at 1pm by the feeder bus to the bus station and then on the main bus
to Vientiane. The bus was pretty full and mostly with travellers. We didn't have a ticket as we were told it had all been sorted. So when asked we managed to get the message across and they seemed happy and didn't charge us or make us get off.
I sat in a separate seat from Laura so we had enough space to relax and sleep but Laura was joined by a guy who had also been staying in her hostel, so they chatted and I fell asleep.
Later we made a stop and picked up a group,of 5 Americans who had been on a canoeing trip and were heading our way. I chatted to one of the girls about her trip, about who we were etc. our travelling experiences etc.
When we arrived at the bus station we all, piled into a tuk tuk - Laura and I the 5 Americans and 3 people from them UK one of which was the guy Laura knew from the hotel vang Vieng.
We all headed for a hostel they had heard about, but when we arrived it was full so Lara
and I splashed out on a hotel next door with a pool, wifi, breakfast, a proper shower not a wet room, fridge, pool, AC and .......... A hair dryer ! Oh and free water and tea and coffee. We even got complimentary men's shaving kit, cotton buds, toiletries, a comb and toothbrushes!
So we settled in and had a swim and chatted to the Americans who also, had the same idea. Then we showered and changed and ended up round the corner back at the hostel, the food was OK and we ended up,chatting to a few people and I booked in for 4 nights starting the following day. Laura was heading back to Bangkok and a flight to Hong Kong. Im here until Monday when the next stray pass bus comes along.
So we headed back to the hotel for a god nights sleep and a good breakfast the next day. We checked out at 12 and Laura took advantage of the pool, and I headed next door to check in at the hostel. Im in a mixed dorm with 7 others on the top floor. Unfortunately we are located just by the showers and
loos all the passing traffic by our door. The beds are really hard and for some reason have a sheet of metal underneath so that every time you move it sounds like you are hitting a piece of corrugated metal. So I didn't get a good nights sleep. There is some cool art work on the walls in our dorm and on the staircases and I'm staying in the aliens room lol.
After settling in my dorm I sat outside and got chatting to a girl called Monica who is from Oz and currently living in Bangkok and is married to a guy from the UK. She came intomLaos so she could renew her Thai visa As she has to leave the county to renew it so she can get back in. A crazy Canadian called Christian who is a skateboarder and a guy who doesn't seem to want to grow up, and looks a bit like Patrick Swayze lol and two guys from Germany called Simon and Raphael or Raff for short. We spent the day chatting and drinking beers and eating. We got talking to a guy from Finland with long blonde dreads who had
hurt his foot on bamboo, but not quite sure how all that happened, and a few other people who dropped in and out of the conversations as they passed through. Monica and I had a couple if games of pool, I won both, but they were close games which did last for a while lol. Later we decided to head to the night market and river and get some beers and chill out.
Before we left Christian gave Monica a skateboard lesson up and down the street outside our hostel but it ended in a foot injury for Monica, but it was just a graze on the side of her left foot and she lives to tell the tale :-)
Christian and Raff had some help from plants and insect ways so were a little spaced out and crazy. We headed off to the market and then Christian had a panic attack and wanted to come back and wanted to know where his skate board was, bless him. It was all a bit precarious and reminded me of old days looking after very drunk people lol.
We got back safe and
sound and lots of people, were around who we'd been chatting to earlier plus others. So we stayed back at the hostel for a while, then we left Christian and headed for for food at a burger shack up the road. I have to say it was yummy!
We returned later to find our chums still siting chatting and being a bit crazy. Monica and I shared another beer and then hit the sack. There was a huge thunder storm with lashing wind and rain and lightening, and it rained again early this morning too.
So yesterday I went for breakfast with Monica to a french style cafe and then we had a wander around the town and ended up getting a foot massage, it was he wan :-) we nipped in to a temple on our walk just to take some photos as it looked so beautiful.
We missed crazy Christian & his skateboard leaving and have seen the German guys. Raff is feeling worse for wear and apologised for his behaviour the night before bless him. Simon has had a hair cut. The Finnish guy still has a poorly foot
and we advised he should go to the hospital to get it checked out. Monica has headed back to Bangkok and I'm chatting to my new roomies. There is a Canadian guy called Adam in our dorm who has been here for a week and can't seem to leave for some reason, but I think is hatching an escape plan as I type. There is currently a rain storm raging so everyone is inside.
Last night me and Simon and Raff visited the night market but it was very small I think due to the rain, we got some food from a local restaurant and then headed back to the hostel for an early night.
