With anything in life worth viewing, a price to be paid. The stairs to the cave entrance.
Tuk-tuk ride twenty-three kilometers over highway and eleven kilometers of rough winding road through the jungle, then a short walk through a tiny village, climbed down a muddy hill, onto a long boat that we had to help bail the water out of as we crossed the river, up two hundred steep steps to a group of elderly gentlemen laughing at my red face and sweat-drenched shirt to see Pak Ou Cave! cars given by the US was a couple of Lincoln Continentals and an Edsel. We wondered where those cars went. Then off to the Night Market for street food and drinks. The Night Market is the place where everyone comes together-vendors, locals, families, lovers, and tourists. Steven has made a friend at the fruit shake stand-he gave Steven his very own bottle of Lao Lao-rice wine made from sticky rice. Steven had his mango/pineapple/laolao shake and I had my usual lemon and mint shake. Off to get some food. Fresh spring rolls with fish sauce in baggies and noodles wrapped in banana leaf. Steven had fried pork spring rolls. Found a bench and ate our dinner with our fingers. Oh-and dinner was $1.25. We are going back for the same food tonight-only difference will be the chopsticks I am going to purchase and carry with me.
