Crossing through a few of the thousands of islands!
So i arrived at Don Det in the afternoon with Tim and we decided to head away from the main port ( i call it a port but it is just where the boat stops to let you jump off!) to try and find accomodation as it is bound to be cheaper! We must have only walked about 100 yards and someone shouts 'oi' i look up and it is Steve sitting in the entrance to his guest house- he had beat me by 10 mins it turned out- what a weird coinsidence that he would end up on the same island as me!
Tim and I finally found a little bungalow on the other side of the island and decided that as i had a mosquito net we could save some money by sharing and i would sleep in the hammock on the porch so it cost 50cents a night or something like that- cheap!
Met back up with Steve and Claire and decided to go for something to eat and then a walk to the other end of the island- it couldnt be that big- it was!!! after a few hours trekking we got to the other end of

the island and turned around to make it back about 2 mins before complete darkness!
Got up nice and early the next morning and went to meet S&C to head for Cmabodia- but first we went to the local bakery and had custard filled sweet bread- umm it was sooo good! then we crossed the river and headed off to the main road- only 3 km easy- i dont think so it was soooo hot!!!!
Made it to the main road and managed to avoid all the people tryinfg to take us to the border for rediculous amounts of money and finally after 2 hours waiting we all bungled onto the back of a bus that was border bound.
Reached the border and got dropped off and all told to go and get our exit stmps from a little hut- which we did with no problems then we followed a man for about 10 mins into the middle of nowhere where an official looking man popped out from nowhere and stamped my visa saying i had entered Cambodia- only problem was none of the others had a visa so we all got in a car and drove to another border

crossing in Laos- by this point i was totally illegal being as i was stamped into Cambodia already!!!
After a long and bumpy trip along a longer bumpier road we finally turned up at some kind of check point where the others got there visa sorted out! then we were stuck in the middle of no where with the only form of transport being the guy who had brought us there and hten next village being a good days walk away- only problem being the man with the car seemed determined to rip us off and we didnt really have a whole lot of bargaining power- we did get his price down a bit though mainly due to me setting up my hammock and saying i would simply stay in the forest that night and get a lift in the morning!! it worked kind of!!
So we arrived in Stung Treng only to find that the only bus left there at 7:30 in the morning so we accepted that we were going to settle in Stunbg Treng till the morning but then just as we found a good place at a cheap price we got offered a mini van to

Kumpong Cham which is the halfway house between Siem Reap- Angkor Wat- and Stung Treng -Who Knows Wat.- anyway from there we got in the mini bus all the way to K C ,probably the bumpisest ride you are ever likely to take in your life!, under the full understanding that we could get on a night bus to Siem Reap that night, Wrong!!
Spent the night in a cheap guesthouse and got the first bus in the morning to Siem Reap but still didnt arrive until about 5 pm.
Wohhh it was exhausting.......

good storytelling!
Hey Jack I don't know why you had such trouble with Miss Jones in English - you write a very entertaining story! Guess its because you are actually doing what you want to at last! Look forward to the next installment, xx
