This morning we decided to visit the new and old areas of Kyoto. In the morning we explored the many colorful arcades and modern department stores in downtown Kyoto. Many of the locals particularly the younger generation are very fashionable with dyed hair and quirky outfits. In the afternoon we meandered through the alley ways of the old Kyoto. We stumbled across many tea houses, women dressed in kimonos and a real live Geiko (Kyoto geisha prefer to be known this way) on her way to an appointment. She scurried past, her white face beautifully made up, dressed in a lovely kimono and all so demure with her eyes downcast.
We joined a night time walking tour of the elegant Gion district. Gion is Kyoto's most traditional and special district where the culture of Kagai, the world of Maiko and Geiko are still alive. We were taken to the backstreets of Gion and we were lucky enough to see three other Geiko rushing to appointments.

Wow, another interesting and exciting moments of your anniversary, to arrive during a typoon and to be lucky the weather had improved that you have so far seen of Japan. Not long before you will be both heading back home. I suppose in one way you must want to keep travelling so much you have seen and experience, what a way to spend this 25th anniversary. Love to both, take care, and ENJOY. Brian and Auge
