This weekend was Tokubetsu Kenshu and Sendai Amity was sent to Tokyo Disneyland as a reward for making "spirits". Basically it means we were given a free vacation and trip to Disneyland in exchange for losing our weekend and having to sit through a rather long and boring meeting. It's also suppose to be a bonding trip for your school. It'll give us more things to talk about than just our students. I had never been to Disneyland before. I was really excited to be going and to be going for free no less! Made the trip well worth it.
We left Saturday night and made it into Shimbashi and our hotel by 11:45 I think. It was raining and raining when we got in. It ended up raining almost all day and night on Saturday and it continued on to Sunday. We crashed and were up at 9:30 to head out to Disneyland. We stayed in the Hilton Hotel that is in the Disney resort. My co NET and one other JT (Japanese teacher) headed into Disneyland while the rest of our school went shopping at the large shopping mall in the resort. The resort has both Disneyland and
Disneysea. Personally, I wanted to go to Disneysea but I was out voted by the rest of our Amity. It was pouring rain the whole time we were in Disneyland. We all had our umbrellas out and were trying to stay dry. We got a fastpass for Splash Mountain and than headed over to Big Thunder Mountain. THe lines were long even in the rain. After we were soaked riding in the rain we headed to buy what everybody else was buying in Disney land: raincoats!
After our raincoats were secured we headed to lunch and we ended up eating hotdogs on the curb semi outside of the rain. It was pretty amusing to see us. I have a picture as well. After lunch we headed to Pirates and other such rides before the rest of our school came in around 3pm. Then we headed to Tomorrowland and went in the Buzz Lightyear ride and Star Tours. Shopping was done, dinner was bought and than more liquid bonding back at our hotel. Baba-nuki was played, without a baba, and we all had fun asking questions any question that we could think of. It was a rather entertaining weekend.
After too little sleep we were up and sitting in a 4 hour long meeting and picture taking Sendai Amity headed back to Sendai.
Tokyo Disneyland was fun, despite the fact that is was pouring rain and that my shoes are still not dry. We didn't get to see any of the characters walking around because of the rain but it was a lot of fun to see how many adults and older people were there and wearing mouse ears and other fun Disney stuff. We even ate waffles shaped like Mickey Mouse. It is the 25th Anniversary of Disneyland in Tokyo so there were extra lights and stuff everywhere. Sadly, the parades were cancelled for the day because of the rain but it was a lot of fun just to be there and enjoy doing something that I wouldn't have done otherwise.
