Hiya!
The last of our entries on our blog - our journey finally ends in Tokyo.
A tiring few days we must say, I dont think anyone could keep up with the pace here. We arrived at Narita airport in the morning and instead of the usual heat to greet us, we were welcomed with 10 degrees - it was freezing - to us of course - still, tired and cold we headed off to the city on a 2 hour trek...had a nice sleep on the coach though...
Our hotel was like a maze - the entrance was on the 1st floor with reception on the 3rd - very strange and on entry to our hotel suite we were shocked - it was so diddy - but comfortable. We dumped our suitcases and headed off to central Tokyo - by metro...oh my god - the metro system is so complicated - you even need GPS to navigate within the station - once we had worked out how to use the ticket machine - we attempted to jump on the tube and begin our scary journey around Tokyo!
Tokyo is a massive city, with so much to
see, the few days we had here were not enough to fully appreciate it - so we ended up seeing the main areas - Ginza, one of the areas here is like fifth avenue - thousands of designers shops and thousands of shoppers - brilliant! Shibuya is where all the young people hang around, lots of bars and restaurants - amazingly big screens showing the latest pop hit - This is the top stop for people-watching - and if ever you get the chance to come here - go to starbucks which overlooks the main street and the main manic zebra-crossing - and you'll be astounded...and you'll get lost walking around...nevertheless, we managed to find the Sony building, to test out all the latest gadgets - so many of them - toilets were nice too! Ginza has the most expensive real estate in the world - hence why our diddy hotel was bloody expensive!
Another area in Tokyo where we spent a fair few hours is Akihabara - aka Electric Town, aka Denki-gai - this place is where you'll see all the latest gadgets - This is the maddest Asian gadget market you will ever see - although most
Metro
Try and find your way out of this! of the newer gadgets are for the Japs only - so you have to be careful..still we had fun looking around - trying to find someone who could speak in English here was tiresome - so we gave up!
Sunshine City was another favourite - with the 2nd most fasted lift in the world apparently, not sure what the 1st is though - we had to go here and check it out ourselves..it was brilliant - within a couple of seconds, you were catapulted to the 60th floor and views of the entire city - fab - we also went to the Mori Art Museum, Mori Tower and experienced views of the city in the evening - fantastic - the pictures are great!
Having spent a few days shopping, people watching, checking out the latest gadgets, we thought we do some sensible things and visit the Sensoji Temple and Meiji Jingo Shrine - both spectacular, very calming - with brilliant architecture - in fact the Meiji Jingo Shrine is apparently, the most spectacular shrine in the whole of Japan with thousands of visitors every day (mostly Japanese) You can apparently heal youself of ill-health at the Sensoji Temple
by rubbing the smoke from the incense cauldron on the area that is troubling you and be healed - so - thats what I did - all over - you never know huh!
Tokyo is truely an amazing city, have I said that already, I'll keep on saying it cos its true - I still cant get my head round it all (or maybe thats the jet lag) but honestly, this city is crazy - with taxi doors that open and close for you, heated toilet seats (can you believe it) with the option of turning the sound of the flush up or down - touchscreen city information maps, trendy mobiles, gadgets galore, the most complicated tube map I have ever seen and experienced - advertising everywhere - on every square inch possible...you never know where to look - there is so much to see!
We certainly ended our 5 week adventure with a bang - and I think we needed it - having been home for a day now - jet lag on top form, its 5pm here and 2am in Tokyo we're both trying to stay awake - but before I go - here's a little
summary of our journey!
5 weeks, 10 flights, 10 hotels, -3 to 43 degrees, dehydration, ocean-walking, koala hugging, parasailing, wall climbing, gadget crazy, Hong Kong skyline, barrier reef, paradise island, aborigines, barmy army, surfers galore, prison walks, sunsets, mountains blue, white sands, siestas, sydney harbour - and lots lots more!
Thanks to everyone who submitted comments - we hoped you enjoyed reading the blog as much as we enjoyed writing and submitting photos...It has been an experience and so - we're now planning our next long adventure - (dream on huh)
Seeya!

We've been following you're travels and it's been a big eye opener. You'll need a holiday to recover when you return. Great stuff.
