Yum Yum
Fried Octy Couple of days has passed since my last entry and soooo much has happen… I’m starting to wonder how I’m going to survive the rest of my trip…..
From the last entry, after watching the cricket I went out and caught up with Hiroyuki and Mika at the Foot Bar on the main drag in town. Few of the boys from my hostel come down as well so we ended up having a decent size crew. Meet some new people and had some random conversations as well which is always a bit of a laugh. Hiroyuki and Mika were blow away by all the foreigners and how much English was getting thrown around. We found out Hiroyuki teaches English to some Japanese for work, no wonder we were able to have so many conversations. Funny thing is he said he only knew a little English, Japanese is so modest. We also gave Hiroyuki nickname “Hero” sooo much easier to say haha. 10pm rolled around and it was time to call it a night, big day of boarding on the next day so we said good night and off home we all went.
Next day’s slopes conditions were
making us wish for the slushy snow we had the day before. Half way up the mountain the fog started and only had 20m vision but that wasn’t the worst part. The snow was harder then concrete, and covered in ice making it next to impossible to board do. This didn’t mean we didn’t give it a go. One run we went on I stacked head first into the slope, so glad I decided to wear my helmet!! All the boys saw it and expected me to have a few missing teeth from it, but I come out of it alright. Spewing no one had it on video haha. Quickly decided that this was a bad idea we went back down the mountain underneath the fog and the slopes got so much better, spending the rest of the day on one run. Making our own fun we were cutting off to the side in between trees and hitting a few jumps.
One of the guys here Matt lives in Osaka so he has come up the Nozawa a couple of times and knows one of the Japanese girls up here working, Emi. She is a classic, introducing
herself as “Number one crazy girl in Japan” and “Naughty sensei”. Funny story Matty told we is he was on the chair lift with Emi, Matty asked her the time and she looked around and then told him, Matty replied with “Where’s the clock?”, Emi started looking around and saying “where where where?”. It took the whole chair lift ride to work out Emi thought he said Cock instead of Clock haha.
Night time rolled up. Damo, Matty and I went up a walk to the supermarket and stocked up on some grub. This is so much cheaper with a week’s worth of food for 2,600 yen which is around $35, a lot better than spending $10 a pop for a cheap feed out. The cook was on when we got back and with a belly full off food it was time to top it up with a few drinks. This was the start of a big night, pre drinks at the foot bar with Emi, Jenny and all the boys from the hostel. From there it was off to the Karaoke bar, the same one I went to last time I was in Nozawa, and it
hasn’t changed a bit. With the bar already full off Japanese it quickly turned into a bit party. The tunes were pumping out and John the quite conservative American was out of control standing up belting the tunes with a few fist pumps in there as well. I saw the owner of the bar asking her if she remembered me from last time, she read Cam and mine’s palm in 2008. Amazingly she did and managed to get a photo with her cause all the photos from last trip were lost from when our room got broken into in Cairns. At the same time I was doing this Clint ordered a couple of bottles of Saki, for some reason he thought this was a great idea. After the first cup my vision went blurry straight away, this shit was powerfully!!! From here onwards my memory kind of fades away haha.
Sleeping half the day today was actually the perfect thing I needed. Still managed to find time to hit the slopes this arvo and had some awesome runs with the snow soften over the whole mountain.
8:30pm Now and I’m knackered after my Onsen.
With a forecast of snow tonight I’m getting a early night so I can have a full day carving up the mountain tomorrow.
