View From My Room
Nice view, average dorms Kiroro, Hokkaido (in the middle of mountains)
HI everyone in Perth and the rest of the world. How are all my friends? Well I have finally broken the seal and joined the rest of those crazy (deranged) bloggers.
So it has no been over two months since I left dear old (warm) Perth for a freezing winter wonderland (no internet access, not sure if it is really a wonderland). Quite contrary to what I had imagined, my body got use to the below zero temperatures wuite quick. Perth being 36 degrees when i left and being between -5 and -15 degrees over here.
Not sure if my busy friends in Perth have time to watch the news or check how the weather is like where their beloved friend Yorma is (haha) but Japan, unlike last year isn't having heaps of snow fall so a lot of the ski resorts which would normally have heaps of snow by now are strugling slightly. But fortunately for me and Pete the snow conditions in Kiroro are good (not as good as last year but still better than other places in Japan). The snow is 3m deep at the top of the
slopes and 2m at the bottom. Apparently, about this time last year it got to about 5m deep.
Who's heard of powder snow? Well there is a lot of it here!!! Not trying to make you jealous or anything!!! :p Although you may think that I would get heaps of time to snow board, i don't really cos I work quite a bit and it's pretty damn tiring to snowboard and work a 9 hr+ shift (190hrs this month). On my days off (7-8 days per month) I either board or go down to the nearest city to shop etc. Unfortunately there is a negative side to being surrounded by so much good snow, and that is that the nearest city is about 50mins away by bus and there aint that many buses traveling to and from the resort. Also no internet!!!!! No convenient stores!!! Oh well.
So what do I do at this resort? Well I work at Hotel Piano. There are two hotels and one lodge type place within the resort. Hotel Piano is the best out of them all (not trying to talk up my work place, just check out the pics for urself!!!) and
the capacity is about 825 guests. We also have an Onsen (hot spring) and a pool and about 9 restaurants. Both Pete and I work at the front desk doing check-ins and answering phone calls and all those other hotel-y sort of stuff. It was quite hard and nerve racking to start but we have gotten use to it and we feel that we are pulling our weight.
Pete and I are staying at the staff dormitory. The dormitory is big (boys dorm is 7 levels and girls dorm is 8 levels) but although it holds a lot of staff, the rooms are small. Pete and I share a room and i can tell you that its not really made for 2 foreigners the size of Pete and I. At first it was really cramped and I really didn't like the room because at first Pete and I didn't know many people and we spent too long in the room, but know, because we have a lot new friends we hardly spend any time in the room. Our room is just for sleeping in.
Both Pete and I have become a lot better at boarding. Pete can do
a 360 and well i can't quite do a 360 yet (only about 270) i have become pretty good at olies and slidding on just the tail of my board. Both Pete and I can do jumps no probs and are learning to do 180's and 360's off big jumps. I have also recently uses the box and the rail. The rail is pretty scary though, as if you fall it is quite painful.
On the 25th and 26th, we went to Niseko (the aussie hot spot) with 7 other mates. It's like being in Australia at Niseko, there are so many aussies and NZ's, prob about half the people are aussies!!! Seriously!!! We took a video camera with us but most of the footage was of us making a fool of ourselves!!! haha.
Hmmm I'm running out of things to write and running out of time (as I"m not really suppose to be using works internet).
Ok well I'll attach pictures of the hotel, snowboarding etc. Check 'em out as u please. And even though I don't get check my email out much fill free to write me. I'll be finishing up here on the 8th
of April and be getting back to Perth mid April. For now my friends, chill!!
