So after we left Kyoto we headed back to Yachimata for a night at my grandma's. The next day we were headed to an onsen/kabuki theatre/dinner club kind of place. It was my grandma's choice so I should've known that it was going to be like a time machine trip back to the 1970's. There was a crazy lounge singer kind of guy there and since we were the only foreigners in the whole place (probably the only foreigners in decades) so he came over and asked us where we were from and then he shook hands with my grandma and sat in her lap! she was so escatic! it was hilarious...

Robert ran into a bit of a trouble with the bath house portion though, due to his tattoo. They asked that he cover it up somehow since many of the old old men that were there probably still associate tattoos with Yakuza (kind of like Japanese mafia). yea, like robert looks like a gangbanger! we got around that though by reserving our own private bath, which I think was nicer anyways. Then came dinner and a show. The dinner was very good and very very japanese. Quite a culinary adventure. They even had mini vintage rice cookers at each place setting steaming individual portions of rice! And several different types of seafood in several different forms (I'm not sure what half of the stuff I ate was!) The Kabuki show was really cool. Sticking to tradtion, men would dress up in elaborate kimonos and make up and dance to music. some of the men were really beautiful! At the end we even got to take a picture with the two stars of the show!
