Hopefully, everyone can read this and can view the pictures no problem. I have not left for Japan yet but I am getting this blog ready and testing it out. You should be greated with a picture of the famous....Infamous???? Bagel. I do miss my buddies (Bagel is plural for a buddy because he rocks that much) Either way I hope to add pictures as I go. On 30th July every year eel is eaten. Its the height of Summer, humid and hot. Averaging 35-38 degrees. Everybody as usual works hard from the early hours until the late evenings. They walk around with towels around their necks to wipe the perspiration dripping from their faces, arms and neck. Its a time to take care as its easy to become sick walking in and out of air conditioned super markets, department stores and office buildings and working hard. Eel is eaten because its nutrious and provides stamina during the months of summer. I took a liking to it. In fact when I visited Tokyo again I found the best restuarant where they serve it all year round. In Asakusa!, right near the Sensoji Temple area. The Golden Week starts during the last week of April and goes on till early May. It starts from April 29 which is the greenery day and ends on May 5 which is the children’s day. Combined with weekends and kindly employers who give the remaining days of the week off it becomes a long set of holidays. The Japanese even have a word for it Renkyu, which means consecutive holidays. Earlier days people used to travel to their homes in the countryside, but with the progress of the Japanese economy record numbers travel abroad every year. So to make it easier for people to visit hometowns the holidays came consecutively giving enough time for people to spend with their families and travel back.
