how i spent my sunday afternoon Bangsal Harbour I took a cidomo for 5000rupiah instead walking to terminal where perama shuttle bus will pick us. There were 4 adults, backpacks, 1 fat kid and the driver on the cart. I’m not extreme about animal welfare but for that 1 km I never felt so guilty to a horse before.
Before the bus came I sat on a warung and had a tea. Talked a little to the old couple who run it. Then the wife said “I think I saw you before.” I told her that I went 2 years ago, and she did really remember me. She remembered that I was alone too and she remembered that I was wearing purple skirt. Amazing. I was just sitting and chat with them like 15-20 minutes and 2 years later she still remember what skirt I was wearing.
“You’re much fatter now!” She said. I laughed. so true. “I remember you because the mole on your nose.” That’s even funnier than the first sentence.
Later the bus was about to take off, I said bye to the couple and they told me to come back soon. For another 15 minutes chat while waiting for the bus? Don’t you
Gus
still on the run see how these people make you feel so special?
I text Gus, my very good friend when I used to live in Bali, he lives in Senggigi now doing hotel business. We haven’t met for 4 years, it’d be nice to spend the whole day to catch up.
Senggigi 45 minutes later the bus got to senggigi, Gus was already waiting for me at perama office. Then he took me to Puri Mas Resort and he already ordered a room for me to stay in. The place was fabulous. I finally got airconditioner and hot water in the room, very very nice.
After he took me to the breakfast buffet, showed me the area around, where he build some villas and the project he’s still doing now. Very impressive. When I knew Gus in Bali we and our friends were just laughing, party, and get wasted all the time so we didn’t contribute anything meaningful to the world. 4 years brought so many changes but im glad the good things remain the same.
After the impressive tour Bujana left me at the hotel to have some rest. I used it to chill on the beach with lime juice and
moto ride
on the way to coco beach (finally) to read some works introduction that I’ll do for Flores project next month. I never good in reading English, especially if it’s about works. So many serious things.
At 2 pm Gus came up and he took me for a motorbike ride to a beach area, coco beach. We had lunch and drinks, chatting about his life in senggigi, my life in bogor, his Balinese royal family, and more about Bali nostalgic life and friends.
After he knows that I’m working for birds conservation, he hesitated to take me to a mini zoo he knows (name discreet). The owner loves to collect living animal and build cages around his house. But I told him I want to see that. It wouldn’t do anything bad to anyone. So we went.
They actually take care of the animals. Even they’re inside the cages, their conditions aren’t that bad. I’ve seen worse captivity before. But they do have very unique species like a cassowary which is native to Papua and some in Australia. The bird is so big, it has calves. Very charismatic. There were also parrots, some are endemic like palm cockatoo, rainbow lori, cacatua sulphurea, and Celebes hornbills. Peacocks, deer
cassuary
big and shy. almost like me except i'm not that shy. and porcupines. They told me the owner bought big land beside his house and will make it as a mini animals sanctuary.
I think there are some point of views to see this. They do probably give better life for the animals rather they could die at illegal market. It’d take more than adaptation for captive animals to be freed to the wild. It is sad to see the animals inside the cages, but should to see more before making early judgements. Basic awareness and law enforcement really count on this matter. After taking some pictures and promised that I wouldn’t take the animal-welfare force to come over.
There was also this small fluffy very cute annoying pomerian. She follows Gus everywhere he goes, then he just ignores him. Poor girl. Gus likes Rottweiler and Doberman instead. But she keeps trying. I wish the best for her.
Gus showed me some of his works, a kitchen he designed and I got to see his furniture workhouse too.
Before sunset he had an appointment downtown so I spent my time on the beach watching sunset with watermelon juice. Paradise.
Later that night Gus picked me up and we had dinner at
Alberto. I passed the restaurant everytime I went to Lombok, now I know they have good food there. Night went well, Gus took me back to hotel and at 4am he text me as a morning call, 30 minutes after he was already at the hotel to take me to the airport. Still, one of my kindest friend, I really hope I’ll meet him sooner than I thought.
