We flew at night from Bangkok to Kunming with China Eastern Airline, it’s great to have food on the plane after been flying with Airasia everywhere. Tasty over rice, Banana cake, peanuts, apple chips, chiffon cake, and horrible, horrible pickles. I repeat, horrible pickles. We got to Kunming almost at midnight, checked in at Cloudland Youth Hostel. The room was pretty clean, for a dorm. They have this great bar and restaurant decorated with Tibetan style and it has good ambience too. We shared 6 people room with 3 other people. we mostly just hang out and drink beer at the roof garden and we came in to the room just for sleep. Have you ever watched a movie titled “Kungfu Hustle”? That’s the building looks like. But it’s nice decorated and friendly people too. (no ... read more

Bangsal Harbour I took a cidomo for 5000rupiah instead walking to terminal where perama shuttle bus will pick us. There were 4 adults, backpacks, 1 fat kid and the driver on the cart. I’m not extreme about animal welfare but for that 1 km I never felt so guilty to a horse before. Before the bus came I sat on a warung and had a tea. Talked a little to the old couple who run it. Then the wife said “I think I saw you before.” I told her that I went 2 years ago, and she did really remember me. She remembered that I was alone too and she remembered that I was wearing purple skirt. Amazing. I was just sitting and chat with them like 15-20 minutes and 2 years later she still remember ... read more

21st May 2009 Bogor, 10am “Could I have a taxi to pick me up at Mataram airport?” I asked on the phone with Lombok Express Taxi. Then they explained that taxi with meter cant go in at the airport, so they asked my number and told me to wait in front of the airport. After I did they text me the taxi id that’ll pick me up. The flight wasn’t delayed, so glad that i wont be late to get Bangsal Harbour. Mataram, 2pm When I turned on my cellphone I already got a text from the taxi driver. I walked about 5 minutes outside at the airport where the taxi was waiting for me. Now I feel bad to the tourists who have to pay twice to the taxi inside the airport. Next time, people, ... read more

First time I went to Gili Trawangan when I first visited Lombok to see my dad who was working there. I was 17 years old. Went with my parents to the island we didn’t even stay there. In that short time I realized how much I like it and I must go back there. Since that I regularly went to the Gilis. Once a year, once in two years, everytime I do, they will remember me. The girl from Taman Mini, that’s how they called me. Because I lived near Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, the place that local people of Lombok want to go someday. Some of them been to Japan, Canada, UK and other places when they were in romantic relationships with people from there, but they never been to Taman Mini. “I went to ... read more

A nightmare with real pains woke me up in the morning. I have to take some pics of this place, I thought. Cleaned up the wounds and took some painkillers, still walking like a zombie I went downstairs took a book I been reading with me. Freddie and his crews said hi and asked how am I doing. I continued my walk down to the sun chairs on the terrace. That was the longest walk I had from staying 3 days in there. Sunbathing was punishing me but I felt good after. Checked out from the rooms but hang around at the restaurant for hours, I ordered beer because it was a hot day, my face swollen and it’d be nice to have sips of beer. “You ordered beer.” “Yes.” “You’re a local.” “Yes.” “Muslim?” “Why?” ... read more

4 hours car ride back to Medan. At Medan we took this shuttle bus service, Raja Taxi. 70K to get Lake Toba. It was very promising, they have good cars with air conditioner, they promised the 4 hours the longest to get Toba. It turned out like this: 2 hours they went around and around Medan picking up other passengers. They packed the car more than its capacity. At 3 pm suddenly the car stopped at the restaurant. The driver said he wants to have lunch first. We told him we need to catch the ferry at 6 pm. He yelled at me very rude that we will make it, the last ferry is at 8 pm he said. We waited about 40 minutes until he finished his lunch. The next 2 hours was hell. The ... read more

This Blog is dedicated for Jaya from Jungle Lodge. We took motorbikes ride to get this place from Bukit Lawang, it was (I’m not exaggerating) an off-road tandem trip. I still not sure how they consider to make a service of this. If I have the best motorbike in the world, I still wouldn’t do it for 200,000 rupiah. Togo, the guy who took me, he was a really good motorbike driver. I asked him how the road could be this bad, he answered “Too many corruptions around.” That’s where we started to talk about Indonesian politics. Between rocks, dirts and scary holes, Togo told me that the people here are so poor and cant trust any politic figure anymore, they accept the bribe to elect with thought; no matter what I elect everything will be ... read more

We arrived at Medan airport on lunch time, after some talks and bargain we managed to get a taxi to Bukit Lawang. It was a 4 hours trip, the road wasn’t smooth. Too many palm oil plantations as well. In the middle of the trip there was suddenly a motorbike stopped the taxi and one guy jumped in the car. He introduced himself, Pak Ren, as the driver’s friend who works at Bukit Lawang. He was asking about where I would stay at Bukit Lawang, and what I want to do there. I really wasn’t comfortable and kind of ignore him the whole trip. Later he turned out to be okay and gave some tips about Bukit Lawang. When we got there, there were already 2 motorbikes offered us a ride to Jungle Inn, the place ... read more

My best friend been booking me for a getaway trip this holiday. We were planning to go to Lombok but its impossible to get tickets in such a short time. And family matters always come around Christmas too. So I suggest to go to this place ive been checking on internet and been wanting to go to. It’s at south part of West Java. So we did a road trip for 3 hours from Sentul to get the Pelabuhan Ratu. The beach is favorite for surfers. High tide Indian Ocean not a kind of beach to swim. But we just want to relax so we don’t mind. After calling for reservation the villa owner told us just to walk in because he never be sure when he has available rooms or not. Fortunately when we got ... read more
